Core Responsibilities

The Postdoctoral Fellow will conduct independent and collaborative research on the international relations of the Indo Malay Archipelago)—focusing primarily on Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei. The role emphasizes theory informed, policy relevant scholarship on security, political economy, and regional order in maritime Southeast Asia.

• Research and publications
  • Design and execute a coherent research agenda on the international relations of the Indo-Malay Archipelago (e.g., maritime security and law of the sea; great power competition; regional institutions; economic statecraft; climate, fisheries, and non traditional security).
  • Produce high quality outputs: at least 1 SSCI/Scopus journal articles per year and 1 policy briefs/working papers.
  • Develop and maintain datasets relevant to this subregion (e.g., incidents at sea, infrastructure finance, trade/ship tracking, or fisheries enforcement), with proper documentation and reproducibility.

• Grants and projects
  • Contribute to competitive grant applications; support delivery of funded projects (methods, fieldwork, reporting, budgets, and ethics compliance).
  • Organize workshops/roundtables with regional scholars and practitioners.

Qualifications

• PhD in International Relations, Political Science, Security Studies, Geography, Public Policy, or related fields (awarded by start date).
• A record of peer reviewed publications or strong evidence of near term publishable work.
• Demonstrated regional expertise in maritime Southeast Asia.
• Working knowledge of Malay and/or Indonesian to support research and engagement with Malay- and Indonesian-language sources.
