We are seeking an experienced and proactive Laboratory Manager to oversee the daily operations and safety management of a dynamic, multi-user laboratory facility. The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the lab environment is well-organized, compliant with safety and regulatory standards, and fully functional to support research and development activities

 

This role requires strong expertise in lab operations, facility and resource management, strategic planning, and regulatory compliance. The Laboratory Manager will serve as the key point of contact for lab users and play a critical role in enabling efficient, safe, and productive work across diverse scientific activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Lab Operations & Administration:

  • Oversee and coordinate the daily operations of the laboratory to maintain a highly organized, efficient, and productive environment for all users.
  • Implement lab policies, workflows, and procedures that promote safe and efficient operations.
  • Manage lab access control, user onboarding, and orientation, ensuring all users are familiar with facility rules, resources, and operational expectations.
  • Monitor lab space usage and ensure equitable and effective allocation of workstations and resources.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for lab-related matters, user coordination, and escalation and resolution of operational issues.

 

Safety & Compliance:

  • Lead the implementation and enforcement of comprehensive safety protocols in accordance with institutional policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, hazard assessments, and emergency preparedness checks.
  • Maintain safety documentation such as SOPs, MSDS, risk assessments, and training records.
  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and accessibility of emergency equipment.
  • Coordinate and deliver safety training for new users and organize periodic safety briefings, refresher courses, and emergency response exercises.
  • Oversee safe storage, labelling, handling, and compliant disposal of chemical and biological materials including hazardous waste.

Oversight of Equipment, Inventory & Facilities

  • Oversee the proper use, routine maintenance, calibration, and servicing of laboratory equipment, instrumentation, and facility infrastructure.
  • Ensure that inventory of lab supplies, chemicals, PPE, and consumables is appropriately managed to support lab needs.
  • Work closely with support staff to address equipment breakdowns, maintenance schedules, and procurement issues as needed.
  • Review and endorse procurement and maintenance plans to align with operational priorities.

 

Stakeholder Communication & Continuous Improvement:

  • Communicate lab policies, updates, and operational information clearly and promptly to all users and stakeholders.
  • Liaise with internal teams and external parties to support audits, inspections, and compliance reporting.
  • Identify and lead initiatives for process improvement, user experience enhancement, and operational efficiency.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and collaborative work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or higher degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline (e.g., chemistry, biology, materials science, environmental engineering).
  • Minimum 5–8 years of experience in laboratory operations, including at least 3 years in a lab management or supervisory role.
  • Proven expertise in lab facility management, equipment oversight, and operational planning across diverse research activities
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations, risk assessments, and lab compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing multi-user lab settings with diverse research activities.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Responsible, proactive, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
