Master Engineer, MVP Studio

Job Description

This role is to support and mentor start-ups and teams on Minimum Viable Products (MVP) development under NUS Enterprise’s new hardware deep tech programmes, as well as activities relating to commercialisation of inventions developed by research communities of NUS and its affiliated research centres and institutes.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conceptualise and build prototypes or MVPs through application of agile engineering and rapid prototyping methodologies as a means to facilitate market and industry adoption of novel technologies.
  • Work closely with faculty members and researchers and to understand their inventions and provide prototyping support to effectively communicate the potential of such inventions.
  • Support the operation of the MVP Studio.
  • Keep track of market and technology trends.
  • Work with external partners to source for solutions to enable the MVP realisation.
  • External partners may include other Institutes of Higher Learning, prototyping and engineering firms and vendors etc.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders including Faculties, NUS Enterprise to support start-ups and spin-offs.

Qualifications

  • At least a Master's Degree in Electrical/ Electronics and a minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience in an R&D or product development setting.

  • Direct experience in the agritech, healthtech, urban cooling, manufacturing sector or  and start-up/high growth company preferred.

  • Must be willing and able to guide and mentor start-ups, teams and interns on a variety of prototype development projects.

  • Track record of managing developmental projects from initial concept through to mass production.

  • Enjoy hands-on work, resourceful and be able to develop quick cost-efficient MVP prototypes and technology demonstrators using equipment such as 3D printers and measurement instruments. Be able to highlight examples of past projects/products developed.

  • Scientifically literate with strong technical knowledge and fundamentals, able to engage with faculty members and researchers in technical discussions and support them with prototype development to demonstrate technologies.

  • Ability to work across multiple industries and disciplines, strong multidisciplinary knowledge.

  • Experienced with hardware product development lifecycle and processes, agile engineering methods, rapid prototyping and manufacturing process.

  • Familiarity and understanding of lean start-up methodologies will be an added advantage.
