The Minimum Viable Product Studio (MVP Studio) of NUS Enterprise, Technology Transfer and Innovation, supports NUS startups and research groups in their prototyping journey by providing industry know-how and technical guidance in the productization of intellectual property. We are seeking an experienced Bioengineer with expertise in product development, synthesis, and commercialization process, to join our team as a Master Engineer (Bioengineering).
As a Master Engineer (Bioengineering), you will guide NUS startups through product concept development, material optimization, and product-to-market process. You will support the prototyping phase of NUS startups and collaborate closely with internal cross-functional teams and external vendors to deliver robust functional prototypes.
Duties and Responsibilities
Prototype Design & Development

Able to translate lab research into viable and scalable prototypes.

Provide expertise in bioengineering synthesis, product concept development, and material optimization.

Assist in prototype testing, validation, and iteration to improve functionality and feasibility.

Collaborate with design and engineering teams to ensure manufacturability and regulatory compliance.
Technical Advisor to NUS Startups

Support interdisciplinary teams in areas such as biomaterials, synthetic biology, biomedical devices, and bioprocess engineering.

Identify challenges in scaling and propose solutions for commercial readiness.

Provide technical guidance and design expertise throughout the development lifecycle.

Collaborate effectively with internal team members, startups, NUS faculty members.

Communicate technical concepts and solutions to non-technical team members and stakeholders.
Vendor Management

Identify and establish relationships with key vendors and suppliers for bioengineering-related materials and equipment.

Coordinate with vendors to ensure delivery timelines and quality standards are met.
Requirements
- Ph.D. degree in Bioengineering, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, or related fields.
- Strong research background and proven industrial experience in bioengineering R&D, product development, or commercialization.
- Good knowledge in synthesis techniques, biomanufacturing, and engineering principles.
- Proven track record of assisting research projects in transitioning from the lab to market.
- Familiarity with regulatory pathways, including FDA, ISO, and GMP compliance.
- Proven team manager with excellent teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to mentor and guide startup teams.
