Job Purpose
The position of Senior Executive / Executive (Marketing & Communications) is vital to the Lee Kong Chian Natural Museum as it seeks to:
1. Nurture public interest in the Museum’s exhibitions, programmes and research activities, as well as its extensive collection of natural history specimens;
2. Support biodiversity research in Singapore and with partner institutes in Southeast Asia and internationally;
3. Maintain the relevance of biodiversity and environmental issues in the lives of present and future generations of Singaporeans.
The successful candidate will deliver impact across the full spectrum of communications disciplines, including media and public relations, digital and social media, and the production of content and outreach materials. The role will also contribute to building and maintaining the Museum’s reputation as a leading institution in Southeast Asian biodiversity research, education and outreach.
Working under the direct supervision of the Marketing and Communications Lead, the successful candidate will support the development and implementation of the Museum’s marketing and communications strategies to enhance public awareness and engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities
Digital and Social Media
- Manage the Museum’s digital platforms (website, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X and TikTok etc.), including scheduling content and responding to queries;
- Deliver clear and impactful narratives and key messages across all communication channels;
- Ensure consistency in the Museum’s brand identity, messaging and tone of voice
across all communication channels;
- Ensure information published across all platforms is scientifically accurate and updated;
- Keep up to date on social media trends and identify opportunities to strengthen the
Museum’s digital outreach;
- Monitor and evaluate communications performance, including analysing social media metrics and engagement.
Content Production
- Design and produce multimedia content across the Museum’s digital platforms; Document and share updates on Museum activities, including exhibitions, research and publications, education programmes and outreach initiatives;
- Develop engaging campaigns to promote the Museum’s events and exhibitions;
- Write articles for the Museum’s news blog including event updates, research highlights and interviews with Museum staff and visitors;
- Coordinate with different sections of the Museum to publish content highlighting their work;
- Work with the Publications Officer to produce the Museum’s annual report, capturing the
Museum’s efforts and achievements;
- Stay informed on developments and discussions surrounding biodiversity issues;
- Assist with photography at Museum events and activities, and manage the team’s media
archive;
- Provide support for other communications-related projects as required.
Media and Public Relations
- Serve as liaison between the Museum, the University’s corporate relations office and media outlets;
- Coordinate media engagements, including providing support for interviews for Museum staff with print, online media, television and radio;
- Draft press releases and media materials to secure and shape positive coverage for the Museum;
- Build and maintain relationships with journalists from traditional and digital media outlets to promote coverage and respond to media enquiries;
- Support communications for partnerships, collaborations and institutional initiatives as required.
Qualifications
- Degree holder in fields of Communications and New Media, Digital Marketing, Life Sciences, Environmental Studies and/or Geography is preferred;
- Minimum 2 to 4 years of experience in social media management, science communication, public relations and/or copywriting;
- Must have a strong command of the English language and is proficient in writing with a keen and creative mindset;
- Display a keen interest in natural history, zoology, digital marketing and science communication;
- Good organisational skills and strong attention to detail;
- Remains adaptable and responsive to urgent or time-critical communications needs;
- Possess basic photography and photo-editing skills;
- Possess good design skills with experience in Canva and/or Adobe suite (Photoshop, Lightroom or Illustrator);
- Able to work with a variety of people with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal;
- Must be able to work independently and collaboratively in a small team;
- Open to working in both indoors and outdoors settings.
