Job Description

The National University of Singapore (NUS) is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Research Assistant to join an ongoing research project focused on plant-microbe-environment interactions. The successful applicant will work within a multidisciplinary and collaborative team, contributing to significant scientific investigations in this dynamic field.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Experimental Setup and Execution:
    • Conduct plant cultivation experiments and ensure proper maintenance of planting materials.
    • Assist in the planning and execution of experimental protocols.
  2. Sample Preparation and Analysis:
    • Prepare samples for analysis, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
    • Troubleshoot experimental issues as they arise.
  3. Data Management and Reporting:
    • Evaluate and analyze experimental results.
    • Document findings meticulously and discuss project outcomes with the research team.

Qualities and Qualifications:

  • Educational Background:
    • A degree in Life Sciences, Environmental Sciences, or a related field, with a specialization in plant-related disciplines.
  • Experience:
    • Previous experience in plant cultivation and agriculture is highly desirable.
    • Familiarity with environmental and plant-associated microbes is advantageous.
  • Skills:
    • Strong organizational and documentation abilities.
    • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration and reporting.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences, Environmental Science, Microbiology or relevant field 
  • Proficient with basic Microsoft Suite, R software. Experience with bioinformatics software will be advantageous
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in English
  • The ideal applicant should also possess strong organizational and communication skills to work well as part of a team.
  • Prior experience with microbiology, molecular lab work, plant cultivation, or DIY work will be considered.
