Job Description
The incumbent will provide support to the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following -
1) Teaching Lab – Medical Physics Laboratory
- Safety management of laboratory
- Scheduling of student bookings to perform experiment in the laboratory
- Maintenance and ensure serviceability of equipment
- Procurement of equipment, accessories, consumables, etc
- Provide in-class operational support
2) Management of Radiation store and licencing
- Manage radioactive waste and keep inventory updated
- Manage radioactive materials within department and updating of the inventory and movement list
- Perform routine checks and tests as required by regulation
- Application and renewal of L3 ionising equipment and radioactive material licences for the department
- Application and renewal of N2 non ionising equipment licence for the department
- Coordinate exchange of Thermoluminescent Dosimeter (TLD) badges and monitoring of dose for all staff and students in the department
- Advise staff and students on safety, regulation and application of ionising radiation
- Management of C-60 gamma irradiator.
3) Other duties
- Perform safety-related duties (lab inspection, safety audits, safety documentation, etc)
- Assist with Department teaching and outreach activities
- Assist with ad-hoc duties as assigned by Department Management
Qualifications/Requirements/Other Info
- Possess at least a BSc in Science or a BEng in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. Candidates with a PhD in a relevant field are also welcome to apply.
- Candidates with a PhD should preferably have two to three years of relevant work experience, while candidates with a BSc or BEng should preferably have six to seven years of relevant work experience. PhD holders without prior work experience are also welcome to apply.
- Experience and familiarity with laboratory operations and safety standards, as well as the handling of ionising radiation, will be preferred.
Employment Notes
- Remuneration is based on a 12-month salary structure, with annual variable bonus which is subject to incumbent’s performance and the University/School’s prevailing remuneration policies.
- The incumbent will be emplaced at an appropriate appointment grade based on his/her individual merits.
