Job Description
The incumbent will provide support to the Teaching Laboratories in the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following -
- Assist the Teaching Laboratory Managers in the smooth operation of teaching laboratories for classes.
- Ensure the serviceability of the equipment in the teaching laboratories.
- Perform calibration of the equipment before commencement of each semester.
- Assist with troubleshooting of the equipment as required by students or Teaching Assistants during usage.
- Assist with administrative duties such as procurement, consolidation of marks, etc, related to the laboratory modules.
- Assist with departmental safety activities, as part of the committee member, including but not limited to licensing and developing standard operating procedures and risk assessments.
- Assist in departmental administration duties assigned by Professors and Senior Managers. Duties will also include assisting in the various lab-based teaching
activities that occur in the department as well as outreach activities.
Qualifications/Requirements/Other Info
- Possess a BSc (Physics) or BEng (Mechanical or Electrical Engineering).
- The successful candidate is expected to have a basic level of technical knowledge and be comfortable with taking apart and fixing things. He/she must be interested in working in an education, research and laboratory environment.
- Experience and familiarity with operations and safety standards in the laboratory will also be useful in this application.
- Some knowledge of lasers, spectroscopy, x-ray, electron diffraction and other physics undergraduate experiments would be an added advantage.

Employment Notes
- Remuneration is based on a 12-month salary structure, with annual variable bonus which is subject to incumbent’s performance and the University/School’s prevailing remuneration policies.
- The incumbent will be emplaced at an appropriate appointment grade based on his/her individual merits.
