Assistant Senior Manager/Senior Manager (Safety Coordinator)

Job Description

The Institute for Functional Intelligent Materials (I-FIM) is seeking to recruit a safety coordinator to join the team. The successful candidate will provide support in the following areas:

Department Safety Management System

• Craft, maintain and oversee the Institute's safety and health management system in accordance to Workplace Safety and Health Act requirements
• This will cover, but not limited to, setting up the safety and health management framework for the Institute and includes registers, risk assessments, matrices, inspections, records and plans

Laboratory Commissioning/Decommissioning and Certifications

• Manage laboratory commissioning and safety certifications for I-FIM and its laboratories

Institute Safety Lead and Health Inspections

• Oversee and manage safety and risks at the workplace

Permits and Licences

• Maintain and update safety and health licences and documentation for compliance
• Be the regulatory officer for laboratory materials, especially hazardous materials and chemicals

Audits

• Oversee all internal audits and reports for compliance (e.g., PI certification audit/surveillance audit/departmental audit) by NUS Office of Safety, Health and the Environment (OSHE)

Training and Communication for the Institute's Research Community

• Conduct safety inductions, briefings, education, safety and health programmes and events

Communication

• To be the point of contact for I-FIM to liaise with OSHE and regulators on safety, health and security matters
• Manage all safety circulars

Security and First Aid

• Oversee access to controlled spaces and act as first aider
• Craft and implement visitor and access policy
• Manage access cards and CCTVs
• Oversee safety and fire drills, as well as fire inspections

Business Continuity Plan

• Craft I-FIM's business continuity plan in collaboration with senior operations and admin staff, as well as laboratory group leaders
• Manage contact list and call trees for crisis management

Safe Equipment Usage and Laboratory Governance

• Partner with facility and laboratory managers in maintaining laboratory infrastructure such as fume hoods, biosafety cabinets, fire extinguishers and biohazard showers

Communication

• To be the point of contact between the University's and Singapore's safety regulatory bodies/department and I-FIM
• Disseminate safety memos to I-FIM community

Qualifications

• At least a Master's Degree in Sciences, Engineering or their equivalent from a reputable University
• Have at least five years' working experience in laboratory management
• Familiarity with statutory safety regulations
• Able to communicate well and convey information clearly
• A good team player
• Inquisitive and have initiative in exploring new technology
• Able to speak and write well in English
