Job Purpose

The East Asian Institute (EAI) at the National University of Singapore is seeking a highly motivated Communications and Outreach Executive with an interest in foreign and public policy to join our administrative team. Established in 1997, the EAI promotes both academic and policy-oriented research on East Asian development.

The successful candidate will report to the Senior Associate Director and have the opportunity to work in a collaborative, intellectually stimulating and interdisciplinary environment. They will also play a key role in the Institute’s branding and outreach efforts as it embarks on a strategic refresh. In turn, they can benefit from extensive training and development opportunities at the NUS and other staff rewards and benefits.

Job Description

To work closely with EAI’s administrative team to drive the Institute’s strategic outreach initiatives and amplify the impact of its research work

Digital Marketing and Outreach:
•    Draft and update digital marketing collaterals (e-newsletters, social media assets), working with external vendors if necessary, to support targeted outreach to EAI’s stakeholders in the academic and policy community.
•    Generate ideas to improve visual quality and readability of EAI’s research publications and materials, and work with EAI’s editorial team on the design and formatting of EAI publications.
•    Build up and maintain the EAI’s mailing list and contact databases by ensuring the accuracy of information and conducting regular updates and reporting
•    Be the key point-of-contact with EAI’s external vendors to update and maintain the EAI website

Communications Strategy and Counsel:
•    Collaborate with EAI’s research team and stakeholders to conceptualise and draft publicity and communications collaterals (print/digital) to enhance the reach and impact of EAI’s research output. This includes newsletters, social media content, press releases and videos.
•    Proactively contribute ideas and inputs to shape EAI’s outreach strategy and improve internal communications and operational processes, including by leveraging analytics and tracking tools.

Events Management and Coordination:
•    Support the conceptualisation and organisation of events such as roundtables, seminars and international conferences, liaising with stakeholders from the government, academia, international institutions and the business sector.
•    Provide administrative and logistical support for events, working closely with the EAI events and administrative team.

Any other duties as assigned by the Senior Associate Director.

Qualifications

• Relevant bachelor’s degree in marketing, humanities, business or communications with 2 years’ work experience in editorial publishing, journalism, communications or marketing preferred
• Familiarity with MS Word, Excel, Canva, Adobe InDesign, as well as WordPress content management systems. Aptitude in digital and social media, as well as design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (e.g. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro) would be an advantage.
• Collaborative team-player with familiarity working with government and policy stakeholders
• Proficiency in Mandarin (verbal and written) to support the development of communications materials in Mandarin
• Strong project management skills and close attention paid to accuracy and timeliness
• Possess strong communication, IT and teamwork-related skills, as well as sound judgment.
• Interest and background in public policy and international affairs
