We are seeking a dedicated individual to support the daily operations of our flow cytometry facility. The role includes managing instrument maintenance, providing user support, and assisting with cell sorting services. Additionally, the candidate will oversee the administration of the PPMS core facility booking system, ensuring smooth user registration, invoicing and system functionality. Strong organizational skills, teamwork, and the ability to communicate effectively with users and vendors are essential. Prior experience with flow cytometry is preferred but not required.

Duties and responsibilities

 

1.    Fluorescence Activated Cell Sorting (FACS) Facility Operations
•    Manage daily operations and routine maintenance of flow cytometry analysers and cell sorters to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime.
•     Deliver high-quality cell sorting services for users, including sample preparation guidance and instrument operation.
•    Provide hands-on technical troubleshooting to resolve instrument or workflow issues promptly.
•    Support the facility manager by handling new user registrations, conducting trainings, and reinforcing best practices.
•    Coordinate with vendors on purchase requisitions, order tracking, goods receipt, and timely invoice processing.
•    Ensure compliance with established standard operating procedures (SOPs) and institutional safety regulations

 

2.    PPMS Core Facility Booking System Administration 
PPMS is a resource booking system that enables users to reserve instruments, consumables and services across core facilities with the institute. This administrative role entails the following responsibilities:
•    Oversee user registration and account maintenance, ensuring all user profiles are accurate, complete, and kept up to date.
•    Deliver timely user support, troubleshooting access issues and facilitating smooth system onboarding.
•    Prepare and issue monthly facility usage invoices, coordinating with the Finance Team to review, validate and finalize billing records.
•    Collaborate with vendors to implement technical enhancement, troubleshoot system issues, and drive continuous improvements in the booking system.

 

3.    Project Based Research  

This component is designed to expand the candidate’s research skills in critical thinking, experiment design, data analysis, and scientific communication. Key responsibilities include:
•    Developing a stable cell line expressing a fluorescently tagged protein to serve as a model system for workshops and training.
•    Designing and validating an immune panel using PBMCs to demonstrate multicolor flow cytometry workflows, enabling new users to learn panel design, data acquisition, and data interpretation.  

Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biomedical Science, Biotechnology, or a related field.
•    Proficiency in spoken and written English.
•    Prior experience with flow cytometry is preferred but not required.

•    Understanding of:  

1) Basic principles and practices in biology.
2) Key techniques, methodologies, and terminology used in biological research

•    Basic experience in molecular technologies and cell culture.
•    Proficiency in computer operations and software, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
•    Detail-oriented, meticulous, and well-organized.
•    Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams and provide training and support to users of varying expertise levels.
