The Mechanobiology Institute (MBI) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is a leading multi-disciplinary institute devoted to developing new paradigms for understanding biological functions in health and diseases from the perspective of cell, tissue and organ mechanics/dynamics and mechano-signal transduction. The institute operates on a fully integrated open-lab philosophy, with an extensive infrastructure supported by core facilities dedicated to technology such as state-of-the-art light microscopy, nano- and micro- fabrication, and computing.
MBI is seeking to recruit a Research Assistant to join its Microscopy Core, SIMBA. SIMBA is equipped with more than twenty advanced microscopes and offers a broad range of image analysis solutions. We train users on different imaging techniques and image processing software, and provide personalised as well as small-group consultations to support users from sample preparation to image acquisition and data extraction.
This is an entry-level position suitable for candidates who are interested in microscopy, imaging, and user support. Prior experience with advanced microscopy systems is not required as training will be provided. The successful candidate will be trained in the use of various microscopy platforms and will eventually be responsible for selected entry-level microscope systems and their users. Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will work closely with the SIMBA team and be involved in:
- Conducting microscopy training for users
- Assisting users during their first microscope sessions
- Serving as person-in-charge for assigned entry-level microscope systems after training
- Providing basic troubleshooting support for assigned systems
- Assisting with SIMBA activities, including outreach programmes and workshops
- Supporting administrative tasks, including procurement, reporting, housekeeping, and laboratory safety
- Working collaboratively with the team to support smooth facility operations
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, biophysics, bioengineering, or related disciplines
- Entry-level candidates are welcome to apply
Advantageous Qualifications
- Experience with light microscopy and/or image analysis
- Highly motivated and willing to learn
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team
