The Centre for Advanced 2D Materials (CA2DM) is seeking a one-year contract research assistant to support the Head of Operations and Facilities in data collection and analysis using X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). The responsibilities include sample preparation, XPS system operation, spectral interpretation, and reporting findings to advance material characterization research and meet project milestones. In addition, the role will support the long-term safety and operational readiness of cleanroom, supporting the tasks of preventive maintenance and upkeeping of reserach tools, and be involved in basic troubleshooting for those tools.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Collect, manage, and analyse research data, assist in report preparation and contribute to scientific manuscripts
- Operate, maintain, and provide user support for cleanroom tools, including basic troubleshooting and preventive maintenance
- Oversee timely replacement of consumables and spare parts (e.g., fan motors, bearings, etc)
- Respond promptly to facility incidents to prevent damage to sensitive research outputs
- Participate in facility and infrastructure projects, with a focus on energy efficiency improvements
- Assist in fire safety coordination, including planning fire drills, housekeeping checks, and management system audits
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in mechanical, electrical, facilities engineering, science, or related discipline
- 3 years of experience in research or semiconductor fabrication tools maintenance
- Experience in lab/cleanroom environment preferred
- Knowledge of ACMV systems, preventive maintenance practices, and cleanroom operational requirements highly preferred
- Trained in emergency response and first aid preferred
- Meticulous, resourceful, and adaptable, with a positive attitude and ability to work independently or in a team
- Ability to multitask and adapt to work in a high-demand environment
