Job Description

The Research Assistant will support projects investigating the ecology and evolution of enteric bacterial pathogens, with particular emphasis on their life cycle within the human microbiome and their survival and dispersal in external environments. The role involves assisting in laboratory experiments, genomic and bioinformatic analyses, and field/environmental sampling, contributing to a deeper understanding of antimicrobial resistance, virulence acquisition, and microbial interactions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, or a related field.
  • Prior laboratory experience in microbiology, molecular biology, or genomics is required.
  • Experience in microbial culture techniques and/or DNA/RNA extraction.
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics tools for sequence analysis will be an advantage.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Good communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work both independently and in a team.
  • Enthusiasm for research in microbial ecology, evolution, and genomics.
