Job Description

The NUS Centre for International Law (CIL) is accepting applications for Research Associate for its Energy Law and Policy Programme (ELP).  The ideal candidate would be interested in working on globally-oriented energy governance issues with a regional focus, particularly topical issues of a cross-cutting nature. CIL encourages its research staff to develop independent and joint research within its areas of focus. Candidates with interdisciplinary research experience/perspectives are encouraged to apply.

In addition to conducting research, the Research Associate (RA) is expected to assist in planning and organising international and regional conferences, workshops and training courses for government officials; and to be involved in drafting background papers and/or reports for such events.

In the case of cross-cutting issues, the RA is expected to collaborate with other research teams within CIL to ensure efficient and effective research outcomes. He/ She is also expected to contribute to the development and maintenance of an internal knowledge base as well as efforts to keep the CIL website and other research-related social media platforms up to date.

The successful candidate can look forward to working at the forefront of governance issues as part of the global energy transition and contributing to shaping the future of energy governance at both the global and regional levels. CIL also provides opportunities for its research staff to attend regional and international conferences, workshops and symposiums. There would also be opportunities to work with leading international and regional experts in this field and gain valuable exposure to a range of energy governance issues and perspectives. Qualifications

  • A Juris Doctor (JD) or a Master of Laws (LLM) in international law with a demonstrable interest in energy and/or environmental governance issues and strong research, writing and analytical skills.
  • Candidates with strong IT skills and experience creating and managing engaging social media content across various platforms will have an added advantage.
  • Candidates with a particular interest in Southeast Asia and its regional institutions are strong encouraged to apply.

Energy Law and Policy Programme

The Energy Law & Policy Programme is a new programme area which CIL is developing, building on its existing Nuclear Law and Policy Programme which now forms part of the new ELP Programme.
