Job Description

The NUS Centre for International Law (CIL) is inviting applications for a one-year Research Associate position from candidates with and LLM/JD degree or related experience in public international law/dispute resolution. This Research Associate position will be under CIL's International Dispute Resolution (IDR) programme, with the objective to support and contribute to its new developments. Candidates with experience in public international law, including in international tribunals such as the International Court of Justice, are encouraged to apply. The focus topic of the IDR programme is disputes involving States and includes issues related to alternative dispute resolution, dispute settlement, international courts and peace and security.

 

The IDR Research Associate can look forward to working in a small team with a short reporting line and interactions with practitioners in the field. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to collaborate with other CIL research teams and  experts, and to attend conferences, workshops and symposiums. In addition to research work and the publication of academic writing, the Research Associate will also be involved in the planning and organisation of international and regional conferences and training courses, including the Singapore International Arbitration Academy, one of CIL’s flagship event.

Qualifications

-    An LLM or JD degree or equivalent experience;

-    Demonstrable interest in public international law and dispute resolution;

-    At least 1 year working experience; 

-    Strong research, analytical and writing skills;

-    Ability to independently produce academic writing as well as background papers/reports;

-    Good communication, interpersonal and organisational skills;

-    Pro-active personality, with the ability to make suggestions and be a hands-on contributor; and

-    Tech-savvy.
