Research Fellow (Artificial Quantum Materials)

Date: 13 Nov 2023

Location: SPECIALTY RESEARCH INST/CTRS, Kent Ridge Campus, SG

Company: National University of Singapore

Job Description

We are looking for candidates with proven track record of high-tier publications in (at least) one of these topics to work on designing qualitatively new systems exhibiting non-trivial quantum phenomena. The characterization toolset includes cutting-edge optical spectroscopy (photoluminescence, absorption, Raman scattering spectroscopy, photon correlations, pump-probe experiments, etc.) in cryogenic conditions and in magnetic fields, electrical measurements in planar and vertical geometries, scanning probes (e.g., cryogenic AFM and MFM), fabrication of heterostructures and devices. The candidate needs to demonstrate the mastery of at least one experimental technique.

Multiple positions are available in the field of creating strongly interacting quantum systems. The building blocks include multidimensional structures comprising of:

  • Excitonic systems
  • Single photon sources (e.g., quantum dots, colour centers, etc.)
  • Molecular films
  • Ferromagnets
  • Superconductors

Responsibilities

  • Fabrication of heterostructures and devices (optional; full fabrication-based positions also available)
  • Building new and utilizing existing set-ups for comprehensive characterization of samples and devices
  • Efficiently working in a team of researchers aiming to quickly drive all the projects forwards
  • Preparation of materials for publication (complete first drafts)
  • Coaching of PhD students and interns
  • Constantly expanding the expertise according to the requirements of the projects, including introduction of novel (non-existing) experimental techniques
  • Undertaking research on topics without existing background literature
  • Automation of experiments

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in relevant discipline
  • Excellent publication track record
  • Performing complex experiments at highest level
  • Handling multiple projects at the same time
  • Scrupulous analytical skills
  • Commitment to the experimental work, including working irregular hours
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Motivation to work in a competitive environment
