Research Fellow (Mechanobiology Institute)

Date: 14 Apr 2024

Location: SPECIALTY RESEARCH INST/CTRS, Kent Ridge Campus, SG

Company: National University of Singapore

Job Description

The Mechanobiology Institute, Singapore, is a multidisciplinary institute committed to developing new paradigms for biomedical research by focusing on the quantitative analysis of dynamic functional processes. Through quantitative biophysical approaches, we address major problems in biomedical sciences, including pathogenesis (from bacterial to cancer), tissue regeneration, and function.

Asst. Prof. Chan seeks a highly motivated individual to join his laboratory on Mammalian Development and Tissue Hydraulics as a postdoctoral fellow at the Mechanobiology Institute in the National University of Singapore. This position is offered under a highly interdisciplinary project that aims to understand macrophage-environment mechanochemical crosstalk during ovarian ageing.

Project Scope

The candidate will investigate the mechanobiological principles by which cell mechanics, ECM remodelling and inflammation drive fibrosis during ovarian ageing. The selected candidate will combine an ex vivo approach with advanced imaging, omics and biophysics to explore how tissue-resident macrophages respond to age-associated changes in matrix stiffness and composition, and how this in turn drives macrophage-mediated fibrosis. To learn more, please refer to the relevant publication by the lab: Front Cell Dev Biol. 2022; 10: 1038107.

Qualifications

Candidates should hold a PhD, or be in the final stages of their PhD, in one of the disciplines below:

  • Tissue engineering
  • Cell/ molecular/ tissue biology
  • Cellular biophysics

Skills and Experiences

  • Confocal bioimaging and quantitative image analysis
  • Some experience in primary cell culture
  • Experience in mice work would be advantageous
  • Highly motivated and independent; open to feedback
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills; able to work well in an interdisciplinary team

Applications should include a description of their research interests, their CV and the names and contacts of 2-3 references in their application. The application deadline is 15 March 2024.
