About the Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT)

The Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) in Singapore brings together physicists, computer scientists and engineers to do basic research on quantum physics and to build devices based on quantum phenomena. Experts in this new discipline of quantum technologies are applying their discoveries in computing, communications, and sensing.
CQT is hosted by the National University of Singapore. The Centre also has staff at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and the Singapore University of Technology and Design. With some 200 staff and students, it offers a friendly and international work environment

Job Description

The Centre for Quantum Technologies is seeking a suitable postdoctoral candidate to join its research team at the National University of Singapore to work on experimental investigation of frequency conversion techniques. CQT has a wide array of qubit systems (ion traps, neutral atoms and solid state emitters) which emit light at different wavelengths with different spectral bandwidth. A heterogeneous quantum network will require an interface that converts the wavelengths and bandwidth to a common band, suitable for transmission, preferably over optical fiber.

The successful candidate will join the existing research teams working on frequency conversion and lead the efforts on experiments that involve multiple groups at the Centre. These diverse labs, located in the leading research universities in Singapore, are already linked by a high quality fiber network. A strong background in experimental optics, with a focus on wave-mixing, will be an advantage. Familiarity with single photon manipulation and detection is necessary. This role will involve close coordination across multiple research groups at the Centre. The candidate will be provided with competitive renumeration, and is expected to present the findings at top conferences around the world. There will also be opportunity to hone their leadership skills by leading the research team, and being involved in the Centre’s teaching initiatives. The position will remain open until filled.

Job Requirements

  • PhD in experimental optics, with a focus on quantum communication
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team and in collaborative experiments
  • Experience in free-space quantum communication is an advantage
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
