About the Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT)

The Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) in Singapore brings together physicists, computer scientists and engineers to do basic research on quantum physics and to build devices based on quantum phenomena. Experts in this new discipline of quantum technologies are applying their discoveries in computing, communications, and sensing.
CQT is hosted by the National University of Singapore. The Centre also has staff at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and the Singapore University of Technology and Design. With some 200 staff and students, it offers a friendly and international work environment

Job Description

The Centre for Quantum Technologies is seeking a suitable postdoctoral candidate to join its satellite quantum communications team. The successful candidate will work at the Centre’s Optical Ground Station (OGS). The OGS is designed to work with quantum communication satellites, linking the Centre to other quantum networks around the world via satellite technology. The facility has already been built and commissioned, and is part of Singapore’s research infrastructure into future quantum networks.

The successful candidate will join the existing satellite quantum communications team and lead the experimental effort at the OGS to track and receive satellite signals. A strong background in experimental optics, with a focus on free-space quantum communication, will be an advantage. This role will involve close coordination with the Centre’s collaborators on satellite technology. The candidate will be provided with competitive renumeration, and is expected to present the findings at top conferences around the world. There will also be opportunity to hone their leadership skills by leading the research team, and being involved in the Centre’s teaching initiatives. The position will remain open until filled.

The OGS is the world’s first purpose-built facility, located at sea-level in an urban, tropical environment. It is designed to test techniques for receiving satellite-based quantum signals close to potential end-users. The facility is located on the campus of the National University of Singapore.

Job Requirements

The successful candidate should posses the following:

  • PhD in experimental optics, with a focus on quantum communication
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team and in collaborative experiments
  • Experience in free-space quantum communication is an advantage
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
