The candidate will work at the Centre for Advanced 2D Materials (CA2DM) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) in a highly international and multidisciplinary environment with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, contributing to exciting advances at the intersection of biochemistry, materials science, and sensor technology. CA2DM is looking for a highly motivated and skilled Research Fellow (Senior Research Fellow) with a strong background in electrochemical sensor development. The ideal candidate will have expertise in sensor fabrication, analytical chemistry, and electrochemical techniques, with a focus on applications in biomedical diagnostics, including hormone detection and point-of-care systems. The position requires a proactive professional with a wide vision from the academy through the industries.
The key responsibilities include:
- Design, fabricate, and characterize electrochemical sensors, including surface functionalization and performance testing (selectivity, sensitivity, reproducibility, and shelf life)
- Perform laboratory validation using appropriate analytical methods and tools
- Apply advanced electrochemical techniques such as Chronoamperometry (CA), Open Circuit Potential (OCP), Cyclic Voltammetry (CV), Differential Pulse Voltammetry (DPV), Square Wave Voltammetry (SWP), and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS)
- Contribute to the development of sensors for hormone detection, with an emphasis on cortisol and related biomarkers
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate sensors into point-of-care diagnostic platforms
- Analyze and interpret experimental data, and prepare technical reports, publications, or presentations
- Utilize analytical methods (LC-MS, commercial assay kits) when appropriate and evaluate their performance in conjunction with custom sensor systems
- Assess sensor performance under real-world or simulated clinical conditions
Qualifications and Requirements
- Internationally-recognized PhD in Biotechnology, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field
- In-depth knowledge and proven hands-on experience in electrochemical sensor development and analytical method validation
- Strong background in analytical chemistry and electrodeposition techniques
- Familiarity with clinical biomarkers and diagnostic workflows
- Experience with hormone detection, particularly cortisol, is highly desirable
- Excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment
- Experience using commercial assay kits is a plus
- Knowledge of sensor deployment in real-life conditions is preferred
- Excellent chemical laboratory/safety practices
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- Publication record in relevant peer-reviewed journals
- Knowledge of regulatory standards for diagnostic devices
- Previous experience working in translational research or industry setting
The position is available for 1 year with a possible extension to 2 years or more. The salary and position depend on previous experience and academic degrees.
