The East Asian Institute (EAI) at the National University of Singapore is seeking a highly qualified researcher with a strong background in China’s economic and financial development to join our multidisciplinary team.

 

Position: Senior Research Fellow
Field: Economics and Finance (China)

 

Qualification: 

  • PhD in Economics or related field; or
  • 10+ years of work experience in research and economic analysis or any relevant areas

 

About EAI:

 

Established in 1997, the East Asian Institute (EAI) promotes both academic and policy-oriented research on East Asian development. Our focus includes contemporary China (including Hong Kong and Taiwan), and China’s economic relations with Japan, Korea, ASEAN, and the world. We collaborate with regional and international institutions, organize conferences, and provide insights that inform public policy.
 

Role and Responsibilities

Research at the Institute on Chinese economics and finance includes analysis and research on macroeconomics and financial system, in particular, China’s banking and shadow banking system, financial institutions and financial sector development.

 

Candidates for the position are expected to have demonstrable expertise in two or more of these areas:

 

  • Conceptualize and lead original research on China’s macroeconomic and financial system and its implications for China-ASEAN relations and Singapore.
  • Apply robust research methods and drive data-informed analysis for macro-financial analysis and policy trends using open-source and other relevant data.
  • Contribute to EAI’s Background Briefs for a policy-maker audience, including targeted reports on China’s economic strategy and its impact on Singapore and the ASEAN/Asia-Pacific region.
  • Build relationships with contacts across financial services, government, and industry in Asia to uncover unique economic and financial insights and enhance the relevance of EAI’s research products.
  • Engage the public through commentaries, op-eds, and public lectures/seminars.
