Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to join a multidisciplinary research programme funded by the National Research Foundation (NRF) and the Singapore Food Agency (SFA), administered by the Singapore-HUJ Alliance for Research and Enterprise (SHARE).

The programme brings together leading investigators from NUS, HUJ, A*STAR, Republic Polytechnic, NTU, and industry partners to advance research in aquaculture and bioinformatics. The appointee will contribute to a collaborative project integrating multi-omics (transcriptomics, metagenomics, proteomics, metabolomics) and gut microbiome studies to investigate the neurobiology of stress and resilience in fish. This research has direct applications for improving aquaculture practices in Singapore and the region.

Appointees may be based full-time or rotationally at partner institutions such as NUS, A*STAR, RP, NTU, Singapore Aquaculture Technologies (SAT), St John’s Island National Marine Laboratory (SJINML), or the Marine Aquaculture Centre (MAC).

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support research projects involving fish multi-omics analyses, behavioural analytics, and stress resilience studies.

  • Plan and conduct experiments; analyse and interpret large-scale biological datasets (e.g., genomic, transcriptomic, microbiome, proteomic, metabolomic).

  • Develop, implement, and optimise bioinformatics workflows, pipelines, and data integration strategies.

  • Create and maintain GitHub repositories and user-friendly scripts for data visualisation and reproducible research.

  • Collaborate with biologists, neuroscientists, and aquaculture specialists across partner institutions to achieve project objectives.

  • Supervise and mentor junior researchers; ensure project KPIs and deliverables are met.

  • Publish high-quality scientific papers and present findings at conferences.

  • Contribute to project documentation, reporting, budgeting, procurement, and vendor liaison.

  • Support additional duties assigned by the Principal Investigator(s) or project leads.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Peptide library construction
    • Preparation of reagents and materials for synthetic peptide library construction
    • Design and synthesis of synthetic peptide libraries
    • Design and synthesis of individual synthetic peptides
  • Screening
    • Candidate will oversee the screening of peptide libraries against selected targets
  • Data analysis
    • Candidate will oversee the analysis of results of peptide synthesis and peptide based screening
  • Education
    • Oversee training personnel for relevant techniques and equipment

Qualifications

  • PhD (for Senior Research Fellow) or Master’s degree with strong experience (for Research Fellow) in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Systems Biology, or a related discipline.

  • Proven expertise in handling and analysing high-dimensional omics datasets (e.g., transcriptomics, metagenomics, proteomics, metabolomics).

  • Strong programming skills (e.g., R, Python, or similar) and familiarity with high-performance computing environments.

  • Demonstrated experience in microbiome research and/or multi-omics integration is an advantage.

  • Strong publication record in relevant fields.

  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

What we offer

  • Opportunity to work in a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment.

  • Access to state-of-the-art facilities and strong industry partnerships.

  • Platform to contribute to impactful research with translational applications in aquaculture and food security.
