Job Description

We seek a web developer experienced in WordPress for an eight-month contract at the Centre for Quantum Technologies. You will provide technical support and perform content updates for a suite of existing websites managed by the centre. You will also help to develop microsites for events. This is a temporary position offering an 8-month contract to provide maternity cover.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Maintenance and technical support for existing websites
- Provide day-to-day technical support for existing WordPress websites.
- Ensure site security by keeping WordPress core, plugins, and themes up to date.
- Troubleshoot and resolve website issues, including plugin/theme conflicts and performance issues after every update.
- Laise with internal IT teams to resolve server or configuration issues. 
- Work on the security vulnerabilities identified by the university’s App vulnerability management tea

2. Assist website owners with content updates as required
- Update website content, including text, images, videos, and downloadable resources on request.
- Create and manage new pages and posts using WordPress editor tools

3. Develop new informational and event-specific websites in WordPress with Elemento

4. Liase with event organisers and internal team to develop websites using WordPress themes or custom layouts that match user requirements
- Make sure there is a responsive, user-friendly interface for desktop and mobile displays.
- Follow a design brief for consistency in style and colours. Maintain consistency across multiple sites in terms of branding and functionality.
- Install and configure only university-approved plugins according to the website requirements.
- Coordinate timely launch of websites in line with event schedules.
- Support search engine optimisation (SEO) and analytics integration through proper tagging and plugin usag

5. Coordinate with university IT partners to onboard existing websites to new cloud hosting environmen

6. Maintain site backups and assist with site recovery if necessar

7. Document procedures, updates, and site changes for team reference

Qualifications

- Proficient in WordPress with experience in Elementor and Beaver Builder.

- Familiar with basic HTML/CSS and WordPress plugin configuration.

- Have the confidence to ask questions about a task and recommend approaches.

- Skilled to troubleshoot technical issues and provide solutions.

- Able to work in a team and have good attention to detail.

- Hold a diploma or higher educational qualification.
