Research Fellow in Qualitative and Participatory Action Research

 

 

The Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health (SSHSPH), NUS, is seeking to hire an individual with relevant experience to lead and support practice related implementation and research. The Research Fellow will sit within Health Intervention and Policy Evaluation Research Centre (HIPER) (https://hiper.nus.edu.sg/) team and will co-lead a 3-year major grant on action research to empower seniors to lead and participate in creating and evaluating programmes that resonate with community needs.

 

 

The role will require an ambitious self-starter who can help produce project outputs and independently work with programme coordinators to ensure milestones are being met. As a researcher of the Centre, you will be presented with various opportunities to further develop your skills to ensure personal growth in your career. This will engage the post-holder in building professional networks across multiple agencies both in Singapore and beyond.

 

 

The post-holder will join an active and supportive team that enjoys working together, problem solving as a team and working on theory-driven yet applied, practical outputs that will influence population health outcomes.

 

 

Requirements:
Applicants are expected to have at least a PhD in public health or social sciences with advanced understanding of qualitative, participatory research methods, and ethnography.

 

 

We are looking for a senior member of staff who can both grow into a postdoctoral role and offer mentorship to junior staff.

 

 

Applicants will require the following essential skills:
• Experience in writing IRB protocols independently
• Advanced experience of independently conducting qualitative research, especially traditions rooted in participatory and ethnographic methodologies
• Familiarity with community-based participatory research, specifically
• Familiarity with evaluation methods or interest in learning about Outcome Harvesting
• Advanced proficiency in executing qualitative analyses and the complexities of combining multiple qualitative datasets
• Will demonstrate proficiency in writing, by having at least 5 first-authored peer reviewed papers published in high impact/credible journals
• Adept at learning new software packages and online digital systems

 

 

In addition, the following skills and experience are desirable:
• Experience or interest in public health communication approaches
• Experience of working in cross-cultural teams and multi-ethnic populations
• Experience in quantitative and mixed-methods research
• Experience of mentorship and supervisor of Undergraduate/Master level students
• Experience or interest in teaching qualitative and/or evaluation methods

 

 

We are seeking one candidate in the current call who will report directly to Dr. Zoe Jane-Lara Hildon and be embedded in the wider team.
