Job Description

 

Job Purpose

Oversee the research safety aspects of renovating & modifying existing research spaces as well as designing and outfitting new research spaces to ensure engineering containment to meet operation and safety requirements (e.g. research spaces with specialised functions).

Manage the maintenance of common research equipment, infrastructure and specialised facilities to ensure safe and efficient operations of the central research facilities under NUS Medicine Dean's Office. The focus will be on enhancing research safety for researchers using central research facilities (e.g. User-training program).

Provide safety advisory on maintenance and operations matters at central research facilities under NUS Medicine Dean's Office.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Work with key stakeholders (e.g. Principal Investigators, NUS Office of Estate Development, NUS Office of Facilities Management, building managers, consultants, engineers and suppliers) on the research safety aspects in the design, renovation, modification and outfitting of research spaces under NUS Medicine Dean's Office.
  • Participate in the procurement process for maintenance and servicing contracts for common research equipment, infrastructure and specialised facilities.
  • Provide safety advisory on maintenance and operation matters to researchers. Facilitate the implementation and operational control of safety policies, procedures and practices in central research facilities
  • Integrate research facility maintenance, servicing and risks management to effectively provide a safe, efficient and supportive environment for research entities managed by NUS Medicine Dean's Office.
  • Implement a comprehensive maintenance and training plan to upkeep common research equipment, infrastructure & specialised facilities (e.g. laboratory exhaust, gas detection) and train researchers for continuous smooth and safe operation of the laboratories.
  • Attend and support recovery from emergencies and troubleshoot arising problems related to central research facilities infrastructure as well as laboratory-related supporting services.

Qualifications

  • Higher degree in engineering, life sciences, biomedical or related disciplines.
  • Technical and practical minded, with a hands-on attitude.
  • Independent worker who can work effectively in a team.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Have experience or worked in research/clinical lab settings with supervisory and roles in facility maintenance and operational controls
  • Proficient IT skills such as MS Office and other application programmes.
  • Able to maintain confidentially of sensitive materials.
  • Committed, self-disciplined, self-motivated with a high level of integrity and  drive
