About NUS Development Office
This is a strategic communications role. You will work to shape how philanthropy is understood and valued across the NUS community, donors and the pubic – helping to influence perceptions, shift mindsets and build a stronger culture of giving, participation and shared ownership of the University’s mission.
The Role
NUS Giving connects people with opportunities to shape lives, advance knowledge and create lasting impact through philanthropy.
We are looking for a versatile and creative communications professional who can turn complex institutional and fundraising priorities into clear, compelling narratives and content. Based within the Strategic Communications team, you will help shape how NUS Giving presents its priorities, impact and stories to different audiences.
You will work closely with fundraising teams, faculties and partners across NUS to understand their objectives, clarify the message and determine the most effective way to communicate it. Your work will help shape how philanthropy is understood and valued across the NUS community, donors and the public — influencing perceptions, shifting mindsets and building a stronger culture of giving, participation and shared ownership of the University’s mission.
This is both a strategic and hands-on role. You may be developing the narrative and key messages for a major fundraising initiative one day, interviewing a donor or beneficiary for an impact story the next, and producing a speech, video, campaign asset or social media post after that.
The ideal candidate combines strong editorial judgement and institutional awareness with the ability to create engaging content across written, visual and digital formats.
What You Will Do
You will shape narratives, messages and communications approaches for fundraising priorities, institutional initiatives and key audiences, translating complex university, research and philanthropic priorities into accessible and persuasive communications. This includes developing cases for support, campaign narratives, messaging frameworks and other strategic communications materials.
You will advise stakeholders on positioning, messaging, tone and communications approaches, and partner with fundraising teams and faculties from the early stages of projects to shape narrative and content direction. You will ensure communications are accurate, consistent and aligned with the NUS Giving brand and wider institutional context, while identifying and managing potential communications sensitivities.
You will source and conduct interviews with donors, beneficiaries, faculty members, staff and partners, turning interviews, research and source materials into engaging written, visual and multimedia content. This may include donor stories, web content, campaign copy, speeches, reports, proposals and email communications.
You will adapt strategic narratives across digital, social, email, print, video and in-person channels; create or adapt visual and multimedia content such as social media assets, short-form videos, presentations, infographics and simple animations; and repurpose strong content to extend its reach and value. Audience insights and content performance data should inform future communications.
You will also help strengthen the team’s creative and editorial capability by managing projects from briefing and research through concept development, production, review and delivery. This includes developing templates and editorial resources, working with external partners when specialist expertise is required, and thoughtfully applying AI and emerging tools to research, drafting, editing and content production while critically reviewing outputs for accuracy and authenticity.
What We Are Looking For
You should have a recognised degree and approximately six to 10 years of relevant experience in strategic communications, content, journalism, publishing, marketing communications, creative services or a related field.
You will bring exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to make complex ideas clear, engaging and persuasive, together with strong editorial judgement and an understanding of institutional, stakeholder and reputational considerations.
You should have experience developing narratives, messages and content for different audiences and communications channels, as well as strong creative judgement and the ability to work across written, visual and digital formats. Hands-on proficiency with content creation and design tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, CapCut or similar platforms is expected. Experience producing digital, social or multimedia content is important, while video creation and editing capabilities would be an advantage.
You should understand audience needs, digital communications and content performance, and be able to balance strategic thinking, creative execution, accuracy and deadlines. Strong interpersonal and presentation skills are essential, including the confidence to advise stakeholders and build alignment.
You May Be a Good Fit If You
- instinctively look for the clearest and most compelling way to frame a story;
- are comfortable shaping communications strategy and producing the final content;
- can see the broader institutional context behind an individual campaign or request;
- enjoy turning complex material into accessible and engaging communications;
- are able to move confidently across written, visual and digital formats;
- exercise sound judgement when handling sensitive stories and stakeholders; and
- want to use your skills to support education, research and positive social impact.
Applicants are encouraged to submit a portfolio or examples of written, visual, digital or multimedia work.
