Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Assistant Senior Manager to support the University’s grant claim processes and contribute to financial planning and analysis. This role is ideal for candidates with a strong foundation in data analytics and audit, who are eager to drive process improvements and support strategic financial decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
Grant Claims Management
- Grant Management: Take end-to-end ownership of education grant management, including preparation, review and timely submission of grant claims, ensuring accuracy, completeness and compliance with University policies and funding agency requirements.
- Data Insights & Analysis: Leverage grant and student data to identify trends, patterns and emerging issues, providing meaningful insights to support management decision-making and resource planning.
- Forecasting & Prediction: Develop data-driven analysis to support forecasting and prediction of grant funding, student numbers and related financial impacts, enabling earlier identification of potential variances and funding risks.
- Financial Impact: Assess the financial implications of changes in funding policies, student profiles and grant parameters, highlighting key trends and potential impacts to support timely management action.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Proactively coordinate across faculties and relevant central departments to resolve grant-related issues, improve data quality and ensure consistent application of grant requirements.
- Process Improvement & Automation: Drive continuous improvement by streamlining grant management processes, strengthening data quality and controls, and identifying opportunities for automation to improve efficiency and productivity.
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A):
- Strategic Financial Planning, analysis & Reporting: Support long-term financial planning, analysis and financial & management reporting to Finance Business Partner Leads.
- Reporting & Compliance: Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial and management reports for leadership and stakeholders.
- Subject analysis and business insights: Support business insights and recommendations for income/cost optimization and financial strategy.
- Benchmarking & Best Practices: Support research and implement industry best practices in cost management and productivity analysis. Benchmark faculty costs against peers and identify areas for improvement.
Data Analytics & Reporting:
- Power BI Reporting: Develop and maintain dashboards and reports using Power BI to monitor grant claims and financial performance.
- Data Visualization & Insights: Present financial data in clear, visual formats to support decision-making across departments.
Other Duties:
- Any other ad-hoc business performance reporting to Management and/or stakeholders as assigned from time to time.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance preferred
- Preferred certifications:
- CMA (Certified Management Accountant)
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) – Useful but not mandatory
- FP&A-related certifications
- Technical Skills
- Advanced Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, INDEX-MATCH, Power Query, macros).
- Financial Modeling
- Data Analysis & Visualization (Power BI).
- ERP & Financial Systems (SAP S4Hana & Jedox).
- 8+ years of experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, and variance analysis, grant management (experience in higher education is a plus) and cost management.
Required Skills & Competencies:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proactive stakeholder engagement with a desire for change management.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills for non-financial stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Knowledge of fund accounting is preferred (experience in higher education a plus).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
