Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Data Governance Manager to drive the implementation of data governance at NUS.
This role is responsible for leading and overseeing data governance initiatives, including the development and enforcement of data policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards across the University.
Key responsibilities include leading data asset, data quality, data protection, and data sharing governance, as well as raising awareness of data governance through training programs.
This role will be instrumental in evolving current data governance practices to address future needs by incorporating new business and regulatory requirements and leveraging innovative technologies.
Additionally, this role offers opportunities to manage data product projects that empower the University in areas such as analytics, data science, and AI.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Data Policy and Process: Develop, review, and communicate data policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards.
• Data Asset Management: Manage data asset initiatives and collaborate with stakeholders to develop data catalog and data lineage.
• Data Quality Management: Manage data quality initiatives by working with stakeholders to monitor data quality health and resolve issues.
• Data Protection Management: Manage data protection initiatives and collaborate with compliance and security teams to establish appropriate data protection governance.
• Data Sharing & Disclosure: Develop, review, and communicate data sharing and disclosure governance with stakeholders to ensure secure and effective democratization of data.
• Training and Awareness: Develop and deliver training and awareness programs to promote the adoption of data governance practices.
• Data Product Management: Lead and manage data product projects, including requirement analysis, participation in solution design, planning, testing, and implementation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in data governance roles
• Project Management certification e.g. PMP
Skills & Competencies
• Technical Skills:
a) Proficiency in data governance tools (e.g. metadata, data quality, data marketplace)
b) Familiarity with Microsoft SharePoint and Power Platform (e.g. Power BI, Power Apps)
• Data Management Skills: Strong understanding of data management principles and best practices (e.g. DAMA, data privacy)
• Regulatory Knowledge: Good knowledge of data protection regulations and standards (e.g., PDPA, GDPR)
• Project Management: Ability to manage projects, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex data governance concepts to diverse audiences.
• Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to breakdown complex problems into manageable parts
• Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
