Job Purpose
Comparative Medicine (CM) provides exceptional quality animal care and technical support services for animal research performed at the National University of Singapore.
Duties and Responsbilities
This position is responsible for performing animal care duties, which include a variety of routine tasks associated with general laboratory animal care in biomedical research that include and not limited to the list below:
- performing daily care of animals, including related duties required for the proper care,
feeding and housing of laboratory animals.
- performing daily animal checking and identifying clinical and behavior abnormality, to
report to veterinary staff
- performing daily checking of the facility or equipment, to identify and report issue to
supervisor
- performing routine cage changing and sanitation
- performing general laboratory animal housekeeping and cleaning duties
- stocking supplies
- records keeping
- operating equipment including cage and rack washers and autoclaves
- receiving animal shipment
- administering topical treatment for common disease as prescribed by veterinary staff
- staff also be expected to assist the veterinary staff when necessary and undertake
other duties as assigned – such as handling, monitoring, etc.
- other duty associated with service provided by CM related to research/ experimental
purpose may be done in case by case basis
New assignments may also be given and are accompanied by detailed instructions, and completed work is checked for accuracy and compliance to established regulatory standards
Requirements
- Diploma in Biotechnology or equivalent discipline preferred or minimum of GCE ‘O’, ‘N’
levels or Nitec
- Good disposition and not averse in handling of laboratory animals
- Ability to multi-task
- Good communication skills
- Able to work independently and in team settings
- Lift up to 15 to 25kg
- Basic knowledge of MS outlook and ability to become familiar with additional
computing software
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to push equipment or cart weighing of 50 to 100kg.
- Attention to detail
- Ability to perform rotating weekend duties and after office hours duties independently
- Process a valid class 3 driving license will be an added advantage
