Job Description

The Student Accessibility Unit (SAU) within the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) aims to create an inclusive and supportive University learning environment and culture for NUS students with diverse range of disabilities and access needs.

 

Effective and holistic support of students' accessibility needs throughout their educational journey in NUS is a key pilliar of SAU's role within OSA and the University. A close and direct relationship with students, peer advocates and stakeholders to ensure access needs are met forms a core function of the direct work.

 

Job Purpose :

This role will also focus on co-creating and coordinating structured publicity efforts and capacity building initiatives and programmes that raises awareness of SAU's support and outreach to both the students and staff community.

 

In addition to supporting the implementation needs of SAU collaborations and projects centred on meeting the broader aim of an accessible and inclusive campus environment, there will be a specific focus to work closely with peer student leaders from NUS Enablers and other student bodies, to develop and coordinate their training and capacity needs to enhance their capacity for meaningful and responsible peer-led outreach.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Initiate and oversee the implementation of case management within the unit, especially during transition support.
  2. Coordinate team's effort in student's learning accessibility needs with faculties and stakeholders through regular check-ins and engagements.
  3. Plan and oversee campus wide disability awareness through community outreach and programmes.
  4. Coordinate capacity building programmes and resources to enhance inclusive teaching and learning practices.
  5. Plan and oversee publicity efforts that are strategic to promoting a positive campus wide culture that embraces accessibility and inclusion.
  6. Oversee assistive technologies and current development to curate relevant resources for students with disabilities.
  7. Develop understanding of student and staff training needs and curate targeted programmes and resources.
  8. Oversee coordination of access services and accomodations
  9. Explore and drive ad-hoc special accessibility projects.
  10. Engage with external partners and follow through on meaningful collaborations that supports the overarching vision of the unit.

 

Qualifications

  1. Relevant experience and background in a related field such as disability studies, psychology, sociology or social work.
  2. Experience in case management and working with youths from Institutes of Higher Learning (IHL).
  3. Attuned with the diverse needs of students with different disabilities
  4. 6 to 8 years of relevant working experience
  5. Adept at working with multiple stakeholders to coordinate case discussions and support for students.
  6. Familiar with agencies in the social service sector which provides support services for students with various disabilities.
  7. Attention to details, especially in understanding nuances of the range of accessibility needs.
  8. Approach communication with students and stakeholders sensitively
