Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Manager/Assistant Senior Manager to support the university’s grant claim processes and contribute to financial planning and analysis. This role will report to Senior Associate Director and is ideal for candidates with a strong foundation in data analytics and audit, who are eager to drive process improvements and support strategic financial decision-making.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A):

  1. Strategic Financial Planning, analysis & Reporting: Support long-term financial planning, analysis and financial & management reporting to Finance Business Partner Leads.
  2. Reporting & Compliance: Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial and management reports for leadership and stakeholders (eg. Budget utilization and fund balance report)
  3. Subject analysis and business insights: Support business insights and recommendations for income/cost optimization and financial strategy.
  4. Benchmarking & Best Practices: Support research and implement industry best practices in cost management and productivity analysis. Benchmark faculty costs against peers and identify areas for improvement.

 

Process Automation & Operational Efficiency:

  1. Automation Support: Assist in implementing automation tools (e.g., RPA, workflow platforms) to streamline financial reporting and operational processes.
  2. System Integration: Support efforts to integrate financial systems and databases for improved data consistency and reporting accuracy.

Grant Claims Management

  1. Grant Claim Support: Assist in the preparation, review, and timely submission of grant claims, ensuring accuracy and compliance with university policies and funding agency requirements.
  2. Audit & Compliance: Apply audit knowledge to review financial records, identify discrepancies, and ensure adherence to regulatory and audit standards.
  3. Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate with internal departments and external funding agencies to resolve grant-related issues and ensure smooth communication.
  4. Documentation & Reporting: Maintain organized records of grant documentation and support the preparation of internal and external reports.
  5. Process Enhancement: Contribute to the continuous improvement of grant claim workflows, including identifying opportunities for automation and efficiency.

 

Data Analytics & Reporting:

  1. Power BI Reporting: Develop and maintain dashboards and reports using Power BI to monitor grant claims and financial performance.
  2. Data Visualization & Insights: Present financial data in clear, visual formats to support decision-making across departments.

 

Other Duties:

  1. Any other ad-hoc business performance reporting to Management and/or stakeholders as assigned from time to time.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, in financial planning & analysis.
  • Preferred certifications:
    • CMA (Certified Management Accountant)
    • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) – Useful but not mandatory
    • FP&A-related certifications 
  • Technical Skills
    • Advanced Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, INDEX-MATCH, Power Query, macros).
    • Financial Modeling 
    • Data Analysis & Visualization (Power BI).
    • ERP & Financial Systems (SAP S4Hana & Jedox).
  • 7+ years of experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, and variance analysis, grant management (experience in higher education is a plus) and cost management.

 

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for non-financial stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Knowledge of fund accounting (preferred for higher education roles).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environmen
