About the Role

The role is well suited for qualified lawyers with 7–10 years’ PQE who are confident working independently and capable of navigating both legal and non-legal matters. The successful candidate will report to the Chief Legal Officer & General Counsel.
Job Description
- Providing analytical and practical legal advice on a wide range of issues including contentious and non-contentious, commercial/ corporate, procurement, employment, insurance and intellectual property matters.
- Liaising with internal clients and external parties, with the ability to give legal advice while being sensitive to industry-specific considerations, governmental regulations, policy and geopolitical issues
- Reviewing, advising on and drafting agreements, proposals, and other documents relating to the breadth of NUS activities
- Reviewing and supporting the implementation of systems, policies and procedures to streamline processes and manage risks
- Keeping abreast with and advising on legal compliance, governance and policy issues
- Conducting or arranging in-house legal training and education for the NUS community, participating in knowledge management initiatives
- Managing NUS’ external lawyers and consultants
Qualifications
- Recognised law degree and professional qualifications (preferably called to the Singapore Bar)
- Minimum 7 years PQE in a law firm or as an in-house legal counsel
- Strong corporate and commercial background; experience in an institution of higher learning would be an advantage
- Strong communications, interpersonal skills and time management skills
- Ability to deal with legal and non-legal issues holistically and with a sound level of maturity, toggling between being detail-oriented and applying a strategic approach
- Ability to work independently as well as to be an effective team player; resilient and adaptable
- Comfortable with data and data analytics, legal technology and systems
- Energetic, interest in developing leadership, management and other non-legal skills and capabilities
