About the Role

The Development Office (DVO) is the University-wide unit responsible for driving philanthropic support for the University’s mission. We are seeking a dynamic and results-oriented major gift officer. He/she will be a strategic collaborator in identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift donors, which include high net worth individuals, corporations and foundations. 

 

The major gift officer reports to the Senior Associate Director, Major Gifts. He/she will support the Senior Associate Director in securing significant philanthropic support, and work collaboratively with NUS leadership, faculty, colleagues and volunteers to cultivate donors for university priorities. 

 

The major gift officer will be responsible for managing a portfolio of current and prospective major gift donors to the University. This role involves overseeing and executing all phases of donor engagement and the gift cycle. The ideal candidate is a skilled relationship builder, with a passion for forging meaningful partnerships, a strong commitment to societal impact, and possesses excellent communication skills.   

 

  • Manage a portfolio of current and prospective major gift donors, overseeing and executing all phases of the gift cycle: identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
  • Conceptualise short- and long-term strategies to deepen meaningful gift discussions between prospective donors and NUS senior leadership and faculty members
  • Prepare compelling proposals and briefing notes to support fundraising effort
  • Meet or exceed mutually agreed fundraising goals and metrics
  • Collaborate closely with faculty colleagues to:
    • Develop and maintain a coordinated approach in support of university-wide fundraising goals and donor stewardship
    • Serve as a liaison to identify strategic funding opportunities and facilitate impactful donor engagement and stewardship
  • Ensure accurate documentation in the University’s donor management system

Role Requirements

  • Proven track record in navigating and closing complex sales with individuals and/or organisations
  • Ability to manage a diverse portfolio of individuals, corporates and foundations
  • Collaborative, self-motivated and adaptable with strong multi-tasking skills
  • Demonstrate strong active listening skills with excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • High degree of customer service orientation
  • High degree of professionalism and discretion in handling confidential information with respect to prospects and donors’ information
  • Experience in higher education or in philanthropy will be a plus
  • A recognized university degree; candidates with a diploma and relevant experience will also be considered
