Job Description

The Development Office (DVO) is the University-wide office responsible for helping NUS secure philanthropic contributions for the University. We are seeking a major gift officer who will be a strategic collaborator in identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift donors, which include high net worth individuals, corporations and foundations. Reporting to the Deputy Director, the ideal candidate will manage a portfolio of potential and current major gift level donors to the university. He/she will be responsible for facilitating all phases of the gift cycle, including initiating contact, cultivating and moving potential donors to solicitation and to securing gifts. The ideal candidate is a skilled relationship builder, results-oriented and possesses excellent communication skills. He/she will support the Deputy Director in securing significant philanthropic support, and work collaboratively with NUS leadership, faculty, colleagues and volunteers to cultivate donors for university priorities.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Engage and cultivate prospective donors for major gifts for the university.  
  • Conceptualise short- and long-term strategies to advance meaningful gift discussions between prospective donors and NUS senior leadership and faculty members.
  • Develop and write compelling proposals and appeals. 
  • Meet or exceed established fundraising goals and metrics. 
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and maintain a coordinated approach in support of university-wide fundraising goals and donor stewardship. 

Qualifications

  • Has proven successful experience in complex selling to individuals and/or organisations.
  • Ability to manage a mixed portfolio of individual and corporate donors and foundations.
  • Collaborative, energetic and self-motivated with strong multi-tasking skills.
  • Demonstrate strong active listening skills with superior verbal and written communications skills.
  • A high degree of customer service orientation.
  • An ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality with respect to prospects and donors’ information
  • Experience in higher education or in philanthropy will be a plus.
  • A recognized university degree; candidates who possess a diploma with relevant experience will also be considered.
