Job Description

  1. Develop, manage, implement and review IACUC policies, guidelines, SOPs, and all other documents relating to the NUS ACUP,
  2. Ensure that the IACUC review of animal use protocols, including preliminary review of protocols and correspondence with researchers on IACUC requirements, is efficient and timely, and to monitor its progress,
  3. Co-ordinate and facilitate the annual IACUC program review and facility inspections, including central and satellite vivarium, and all other premises where live animals are used for scientific purposes,
  4. Prepare for AVS regulatory inspections, AAALAC accreditation site visits, and any other audits related to the NUS ACUP,
  5. Serve as a resource person for the IACUC Chair/IACUC regarding regulatory, compliance, and licensing issues pertaining to ACUP,
  6. Assist IACUC Chair/IACUC in ensuring compliance with the regulations and guidelines on the use of animals for scientific purposes by researchers by actively coordinating, managing and participating in monitoring such as Post-Approval Monitoring (PAM);
  7. Investigate and follow-up on any animal welfare concerns received by the IACUC,
  8. Oversee and manage all administrative IACUC Office functions e.g. taking minutes, arranging meetings, liaising with external agencies, updating IACUC software platform and database, compiling data, and any other administrative issue related to function of IACUC office,
  9. Ensure proper documentation, record keeping and database maintenance,
  10. Appraise staff performance and provide training opportunities for career development,
  11. Address feedback from stakeholders about IACUC’s operations and work to resolve them, and
  12. Any other IACUC duties received from IACUC Chair.

Qualifications

  1. A PhD degree in biological / life sciences, DVM or MD with experience in use of animals for research.
  2. Certified Professional in IACUC Administration (CPIA certification) or at least 3 years of experience managing an IACUC office. ALAT, LAT, LATG, CMAR or similar laboratory animal related certifications will be beneficial.
  3. Keen interest in animal welfare and compliance.
  4. Good command of written and spoken English and good interpersonal communication skills.
  5. Experienced in using and/or caring for live animals for research.
  6. Good knowledge of animal ethics and animal use regulations and guidelines such as AVS Rules, NACLAR Guidelines and AAALAC expectations.
  7. Proficient with using software programs commonly used in office and for writing protocols.
  8. Able to work under pressure and adhere to timelines.
  9. Able to identify critical points to solve complex scenarios.
  10. Able to lead a team and provide guidance and direction.
