Job Description

Residential Life's vision is to partner NUS hostels' leadership in the creation of a home away from home experience where every student feels supported, engaged, and empowered to succeed, and make a positive impact in our residential community and the broader world.

 

The Section Head at Residential Life is responsible for the day-to-day running of the section, to oversee and lead a team to provide prompt advisory to NUS hostels and oversee policies that promote quality experiences, support and opportunities for residents to achieve success.

 

1. Community Standards Enforcement and Review

  • Enforce the disciplinary framework and provide guidance to hostel management for disciplinary and housing breaches.
  • Annual Review of disciplinary processes, policies and guidelines related to student conduct at hostels.
  • Oversight of disciplinary appeals and housing breaches.
  • Coordinate workshops for resident staff who manage student conduct matters.

 

2. Hostel Transformation

  • Recruitment of Resident staff and Residential Life Office staff for new hostels.
  • Periodic review of content hosted on OSA RL and hostels' websites.
  • Accurate content in communication materials relating to residential life and timely communications to stakeholders in NUS hostels.
  • Coordinate hostel life and residential experience talks in NUS Open House and webinars

 

3. Hostel Student Leaders & Development

  • Oversee dialogues and symposium for NUS hostels with focus on best practices in residential life and student engagement.
  • Explore and curate opportunities for hostel student leaders to attend conferences, trainings, and dialogues.
  • Periodic dialogues with hostel masters and residential student leaders on hot button issues at the hostels.

 

4. Human Resource & People Management

  • People management including recruitment, appraisal, mentoring, coaching and professional developments.
  • Explore opportunities for staff development plans and trainings.
  • Lead the team to review and implement workplans that will meet the University's strategic objectives.
  • Oversee the recruitment and appraisals for residents staff (hostel masters and resident fellows)

 

5. Finance

  • Oversee the section budget and compliance with University Procurement Policies
  • Annual review of hostels' budget finances.

 

6. Other Assigned Duties

  • Manage projects in collaboration with other university offices and hostels to enrich the residential experiences of NUS students
  • Provide timely and effective administrative support to the department and senior management.
  • Participation in working committees and other duties as assigned by the Division Head and Deanery.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • University degree with at least 5 years of managerial experience in people management and administration.
  • Analytical, excellent process, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent data management and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong work ethics and integrity
  • Strong leadership, organisation, problem solving and planning skills
  • Commitment to customer service and a continuous quality improvement focus.
  • Demonstrated ability as a leader and team-player (adaptable, cooperation, 'can-do')
