Job Description
The Office of the Provost (Student Life) plays a pivotal role in shaping the overall student experience beyond the academic curriculum, overseeing the governance of student life for more than 50,000 students at the university. Student life in NUS is multi-faceted, encompassing residential life, sports, the arts, community engagement and service, student wellness, support services, and more than 240 officially recognised student organisations, including the NUS Students' Union and the NUS Graduate Students' Society.
We are seeking a Senior/Manager to join the Office of the Provost (Student Life). The candidate will support the Vice Provost (Student Life) through policy research, analysis and development, strategic planning, co-ordination, review and evaluation of university-wide Student Life priorities.
Key responsibilities include:
• Plan and conduct policy research, environmental scans and literature reviews on emerging trends in higher education and evolving institutional priorities to analyse and synthesise evidence, benchmark institutional best practices and stakeholder perspectives to inform policy and strategy
• Engage relevant internal and external stakeholders to gather insights to guide the development of relevant Student Life policies and strategies
• Lead the development and drafting of policy papers, briefing notes, presentation decks, management reports and other strategic communication materials for the Vice Provost (Student Life) and senior management
• Lead the planning, implementation and review of strategic projects and institutional initiatives, including developing project plans, co-ordinating with cross-functional stakeholders, monitoring implementation and evaluating outcomes
• Oversee and co-ordinate institutional monitoring, evaluation and reporting of Student Life activities, including submissions to senior management and relevant external stakeholders
• Support the design, analysis and reporting of findings from an annual university-wide student survey or other surveillance systems, translating quantitative and qualitative data into clear recommendations, reports and visual presentations
• Work closely with faculties, hostels and administrative offices to gather inputs, align stakeholders and support decision-making for policies, strategies and programmes
• Support selected cross-functional projects and other priorities of the Office, as required.
• Mentor and provide guidance to junior colleagues where applicable
• Undertake other strategic projects and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
• A recognised bachelor’s degree in a relevant field in public policy, economics, communications, social sciences, business or another relevant discipline. A relevant postgraduate qualification (Masters, PhD) will be advantageous.
• At least two to three years of relevant experience in policy, strategy, planning, governance, higher education, public administration or a related area. Experience working in a large or complex organisation would be advantageous
• Strong research, analytical and synthesis skills, with the ability to translate complex evidence into practical policy recommendations for senior decision-makers
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing executive papers, management reports, briefing materials and presentation decks
• Ability to independently lead cross-functional projects involving multiple stakeholders from planning through implementation and evaluation
• Strong interpersonal and stakeholder-management skills, including the ability to work effectively with senior colleagues and stakeholders across the University
• Organised and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work within timelines
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Experience with statistical software (e.g. SPSS or Stata) and data visualisation tools would be an advantage
