Job Purpose

 

The National University of Singapore (NUS) Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine invites applications for Lecturer/Senior Lecturer positions on the Educator Track Scheme in the Department of Biochemistry. The Department teaches medical, dental and life science students at both undergraduate and graduate levels (more information is available here). Appointments will be made on a 2- or 3-year contract basis in the first instance with possibility of extension, depending on performance. Applications are assessed on a rolling basis.

Duties & Responsibilities

 

Successful candidates will report to the Head of Department and will work closely with the Deputy Heads to contribute to excellence in education. They will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate-level medical, dental and life science students as determined by the Department. The appointee will also be expected to contribute to service to the Department and University as assigned by the Head of Department.

 

Successful candidates will be a champion for innovation and entrepreneurship in online education, educational technology, continuing education and training (CET), or other aspects of medical, health-care and biomedical education. They will be expected to compete for independent extramural/intramural education research funding, participate and publish scholarly research in biochemistry education. The lecturer will be expected to show teaching achievement as evidenced by positive impact on student learning as well as commitment to collegial sharing of his/her work within the local educational environment.

Requirements/Qualifications

The applicant should have: 

  • PhD or MD degree or equivalent from a well-recognised university, preferably in biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, or related disciplines;
  • 2 to 3 years’ full-time working experience in academia;
  • Knowledge of and interest in biomedical sciences and higher education;
  • Interest in innovation and entrepreneurship in education and/or scholarly research in education;
  • Applicants with an excellent track record of teaching experience in higher education will be preferred. Criteria for appointment will include some or all of the following:

  1. Good teaching feedback scores;
  2. Effective design, delivery, supervision and assessment that focuses on the students’ learning process;
  3. Innovative course design and/or delivery and/or assessment (including where applicable use of technology to further these ends); and
  4. Reflective and professional approach to teaching and student learning. 

 

  • Ability to work well independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team with diverse interests and opinions.
