Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for a Research Assistant (RA) position in the Computational Brain Imaging Group (CBIG), at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. More information on the laboratory can be found here. Our group develops machine learning algorithms to automatically generate discoveries from large-scale brain imaging data. We aim to uncover fundamental principles of healthy brain development, understand how brain organization supports cognition, and identify how these processes are altered in mental disorders.
Joining our team offers the opportunity to work at the cutting edge of computational neuroscience, artificial intelligence, and medical brain imaging. You will have access to powerful high-performance computing resources and collaborate with an excellent network of scientists and clinicians, both locally and internationally. The position also offers early mentorship and guidance in academic research, with a strong record of RAs progressing to top-tier graduate programs. Appointments will be made on a two-year contract in the first instance, with the possibility of extension. The ideal start date is between January 2026 and July 2026.

Purpose of the post
We seek an enthusiastic and self-motivated Research Assistant to join our interdisciplinary team. The RA will work closely with Dr. Sina Mansour L. and A/Prof. B.T.T. Yeo, as well as lab members and inter/national collaborators, to contribute to ongoing research in computational modeling and neuroimaging. The RA will have the opportunity to lead an independent project while also participating in other lab initiatives. Previous RAs have successfully published first-author studies and gone on to graduate programs at universities
such as Stanford, Cornell, and Oxford.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Conduct and support research in computational neuroscience, neuroimaging, and machine learning.
  • Data management, preprocessing and analytics for large-scale neuroimaging datasets.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of analytical pipelines and opensource software.
  • Contribute to academic writing, data visualization, and presentations.
  • Website development and maintenance of code/documentation repositories.
  • Design and lead an independent research project under mentorship.

Qualifications

The applicant should have:
a) Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree with strong computational, engineering, mathematical, programming, and or biomedical skills
b) Excellent written, oral communication skills
c) Prior programming experience (e.g., python, shell, JavaScript, Matlab) and familiarity with collaborative software development (e.g., git/github) is a plus
d) Organized, reliable, self-motivated, and able to work effectively in a team environment.
e) Expected to commit for at least two years

Remuneration will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. Interested applicants are welcome to apply here and/or email Dr. Sina Mansour L. at sina_ml@nus.edu.sg with a cover letter, resume, and contacts of two/three references. Only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
