Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for Research Assistant in the Department of Clinical Imaging Research Centre (CIRC) Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. CIRC is a dedicated molecular imaging research centre.  It is equipped with on-site capability for the preparation of diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals in a modern GMP-certified facility. CIRC is positioned to support both academic and commercially led clinical research programs, with dedicated clinical imaging facilities area advanced modalities of PET-CT and PET-MRI.  For more details on what we do, do visit https://medicine.nus.edu.sg/circ/. Purpose of the post

The Research Assistant will be responsible for the routine production of radiopharmaceuticals in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).  The successful candidate will also assist in the method development and validation of new radiopharmaceuticals, including the preparation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and other quality related documentation.   Other tasks may be assigned as per business needs which may include routine QC analysis of the product as per established procedures.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Assistant will be able to:

  • Perform routine preparation of radiopharmaceuticals as per protocols and current GMP regulations.
  • Develop and optimize radiochemistry procedures and processes.
  • Perform basic maintenance/troubleshooting of automated synthesis modules, hot cells and other lab equipment.
  • Safe handling of radioactive materials and disposal of hazardous waste according to University regulations.
  • Perform environmental monitoring as required by PIC/S GMP in the cleanrooms (environmental monitoring, airborne particle monitoring).
  • Assist in writing Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, Record sheets and other quality related documentation.
  • Maintain consumable inventories and re-ordering of stock as necessary.
  • Perform QC processes (HPLC, GC, TLC etc) according to procedures to ensure the product is safe for clinical use.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage routine microbial tests such as microbial plate incubation, sterility testing, bioburden testing, etc and liaising with third party contractors if required.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the QC laboratory and the cyclotron facility.
  • Other adhoc duties may also be assigned as required by department.

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Personnel should be comfortable with:

•            Exposure to radiation when handling radioactive samples.

•            Handling of chemicals for QC testing (flammables, acids, and bases).

•            Handling chemical and biohazard wastes

•            Occasional lifting of heavy objects

•            Flexible working hours with occasional over time

Qualifications

The applicant should:

  1. Have a minimum of BSc degree in Chemistry (Synthetic Organic/Inorganic/Medical), Biochemistry, Pharmacy or a related science field.
  2. Experience in production, manufacturing or handling of PET drug products preferred.
  3. Good knowledge and experience of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) or GLP (Good Laboratory Practice).
  4. Practical experience in general wet laboratory techniques, such as analytical balance operations, pipetting, pH measurement and reagents preparation.
  5. Preferably hands-on experience with operating and maintaining analytical instruments such as HPLC, GC, TLC.
  6. Basic understanding of relevant safety regulations and protocols for handling/disposal of radioactive materials.
  7. Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate professionally with colleagues and customers.
  8. Proven ability to work independently with minimum supervision as well as a constructive team player.

Qualifications

  1. Require critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with a strong attention to detail.
  2. Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite.
  3. Those with no experience but with relevant academic and skills will be considered for this position.
