The National University of Singapore invites applications for a Research Assistant to join the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology’s newly established Core Support Faculty. The Core Support Faculty will be comprised of a Senior Research Fellow, a Bioinformatics Specialist and a Clinical Research Co-Ordinator / Clinical Research Assistant (clinical study recruitment, ethical approvals, data collection and management, sample acquisition, this role). The successful applicant for this role will be expected to work closely with the other Core Support Faculty members, establishing a strong team working environment with productivity, collaboration and service as key operating parameters. In the role of Clinical Research Coordinator and Research Assistant, the applicant will work across the NUS and NUH campuses to support nascent research projects run by investigators in the Department. A key part of this role (and the Core Support Faculty generally) is to develop the preliminary data, publications, funding applications and investigator expertise necessary to launch the careers of world-leading clinician and basic scientists working in obstetric and gynaecological research.
Appointments will be made on a one (1) year contract basis in the first instance, with the possibility of extension for very high performing staff.
Purpose of the post
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology has established a Core Support Faculty to drive research productivity and opportunity for emerging researchers. A key focus of the Core Support Faculty is to promote the careers and productivity of junior investigators (both clinician scientists and translationally-focused basic scientists). Key deliverables for the role will be the rapid generation of high-impact publications, the rapid receipt of competitive grant funding, a rapid increase in the uptake of higher research degree candidacies (especially PhDs), the provision of technical training to the Department, and the support of clinical trials.
The successful applicant will report to the Director of Research, and work closely with a range of junior investigators from a broad cross-section of obstetric and gynaecological disciplines. The Successful applicant will be expected to work closely with senior members of the Department, including Visiting Professors. The successful applicant for this role will be expected to work closely with the other Core Support Faculty members, establishing a strong team working environment with productivity, collaboration and service as key operating parameters.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
The Research Assistant will be responsible for:
- Oversee the general management of delegated projects;
- Provide administrative and secretarial support to delegated projects, such as organizing regular meetings to maintain regular communication with other members of the research team and collaborate with the study sites and other stakeholders;
- Undertake the day to day running of the project(s) at the study site, e.g. Collaborate with team members at the study sites, recruitment, data collection, sample collection and management at hospital(s);
- Conduct literature searches, using SPSS to enter data, and analyse data and maintain trial database, as well as assist in preparing both progress and final reports of the project;
- Maintain the highest standard of professional conduct and record keeping in accordance with policies and procedures;
- Manage ethical submissions and on-going compliance, including PDPA;
- Play a support role in the drafting of papers and funding applications;
- Demonstrate the ability to multitask effectively while supporting multiple projects across the department;
- Coordinate grants related to Clinical Research and other types of research;
- Provide logistics and administrative support;
- Assist with any other duties that are delegated by the PI or supervisors.
Qualifications
The successful applicant should:
- have a Bachelor’s degree in science-related field, nursing or equivalent; CRC experience (with demonstrated track record of supporting successful studies) will be a strong advantage;
- be able to work meticulously, independently and as a team player;
- good understanding of GCP, familiarity with research-based principles; and
- have knowledge of computer applications, e.g. SPSS, MS office, PowerPoint;
