Job Description
1. Job Purpose
The Research Assistant (RA) will be responsible to, and work closely with, the Principal Investigator and study team members to ensure the successful completion of the non-coding RNA (ncRNA) biomarker discovery research projects and subsequent functional validation of the identified ncRNA biomarkers in a timely manner at the NUS ncRNA Core Facility. The RA’s role also covers work in general practices such as lab safety management, lab consumable/reagent procurement, lab reagent inventory management, data collection/entry and analysis, webpage management and lab equipment training (new users).
2. Duties and Responsibilities
2.1 Primary Responsibilities and Duties (100%)
The RA will perform a variety of functions related to the management of routine lab operations and research under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI) or his/her designate. The RA will be able to:
- Establish, implement and maintain lab safety management system;
- Provide administrative support for routine lab operations, including but not limited to lab consumable/reagent procurement and lab reagent inventory management;
- Perform cell and molecular biology experiments related to research projects (including establishing new preclinical models) undertaken by the lab and provision of guidance to lab trainees;
- Maintain the highest standard of professional conduct and record keeping in accordance with policies and procedures, including accurate monitoring, documenting and reporting of experimental results and research findings;
- Evaluate and interpret collected data and prepare oral presentations or written reports/scientific manuscripts/literature for publication and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions;
- Updating the webpage of ncRNA Core
- Manage the Pasteur Platform Management System (PPMS) for booking selected lab equipment by non-ncRNA Core staff/students and conduct relevant onboarding for new users;
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein
Qualifications
3.1 Qualification:
- Hold a Good Bachelor’s Degree in Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences or related disciplines; preferably with some experience in research. Candidate with a Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences or related disciplines and relevant job experience will be considered for the position of a Research Associate;
- Demonstrated basic knowledge and skills in supporting various research activities;
- Knowledge in molecular and cellular laboratory techniques, including but not limited to molecular cloning, cell culture, nucleic acid isolation, RT-qPCR, gel electrophoresis, and Western blot are essential. Prior experience in library preparation for Next-Gen-Seq (NGS) is desirable;
- Be able to work independently and in a team, have an investigative nature and attention to detail;
- Have knowledge of computer applications, e.g. MS Office Suite/Office 365, GraphPad Prism, Python and/or R programming
3.2 Experience:
- One year (or more) of relevant laboratory research experience will be advantageous.
3.3 Skills:
- Independent mature worker who is well-organized, has the ability to multitask.
- Possess good written and spoken communication skills.
