Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Research, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, the successful applicant will play a key role in the running of a large, dynamic laboratory as well as make an important contribution to research studies targeting improved health outcomes for mothers and babies.

 

Purpose:

To provide laboratory safety and management support to the department.

To provide administrative support for research in the day-to-day operations of laboratory and research studies.

To participate in the collection and analysis of samples and data for research studies for publications, external collaboration and grant funding.

Roles and Responsibilities

Safety - Department Safety & Health (S&H) Co-ordinator

- Oversee management of Safety & Health for all Department staff and over all work sites - MD11, MD6, Tower Block, CELS & ensure compliance to legal requirements.

- Organise and conduct regular S&H audits.

- Ensure all staff have the appropriate safety trainings and certifications for work.

- Organise emergency responders and ensure all training is valid and up to date - First aiders, fire wardens, spill responders, etc.

- Respond to any S&H queries raised by staff from O&G, or staff looking to perform work in O&G facilities.

- Keep all Department S&H documents up to date and ensure all research groups have updated S&H documents.

- Manage and investigate any safety related incidents.

- Organise Safety Committee and Department Safety meetings.

- Participate in the Safety & Health Committee of NUSMed - Attend meetings and subject to audits.

Roles and Responsibilities

Procurement

- Ad hoc procurement of consumables, equipment, catering etc.

- Ad hoc management of payments, e.g. billing issues, recurring billing, visiting professors withholding tax, etc.

- Carry out administrative duties including procurement of study needs, expense tracking and payment processing, collation of data, recording of inventory, coordination of meetings and travel arrangements, and other administrative duties

 

Lab Management

- Ensure common supplies are readily stocked - Dry ice, ethanol, CO2, tissue paper etc.

- Manage maintenance of common equipment in MD11 Lab and office - BSC, Centrifuge, Freezer, water heater.

- Respond to any issues raised by lab members and escalate to the responsible party - e.g. Faulty equipment, water leak, infrastructure damage.

- Work with Department staff and building management to resolve any issues regarding lab space.

Roles and Responsibilities

Research

Including but not limited to the following;

- Assist laboratory members in carrying out research projects

- Conduct animal, cell culture, biochemistry and molecular biology experiments

- Support general operations and routine maintenance work in the laboratory

- Perform other related research and administrative duties

- Support Research Director on research and administrative duties

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in science-related field, nursing or equivalent. Candidates with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience would be preferred.
  • Good understanding of GCP, familiarity with research-based principles
  • Good written and communication skills. Ability to speak other languages and common dialects will be an added advantage because our organization serves a diverse customer/patient base. This facilitates communication with patients from various linguistic backgrounds and contribute to a more effective work environment. This skill is also valuable in roles that involve direct interaction with patients, as it helps to bridge language barriers.

  • Possess strong work ethic
