Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for the role of Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) Software Engineer to hold an appointment as Research Assistant in the Department of Paediatrics and the Centre for Healthcare Simulation, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The Centre for Healthcare Simulation is committed to developing a world-class immersive, simulation-based learning environment where clinical education is enhanced through simulation technology, innovation and research. The project that is being developed is in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering and so the applicant will be working at the Immersive Reality Lab, Engineering Design and Innovation Centre, under the supervision of Co-PI A/Prof Khoo Eng Tat. This appointment will be made on a 1-year contract basis.

 

Purpose of the post

The Research Assistant will be responsible to, and work closely with, the Principal Investigator and study team members to develop Augmented and Virtual Reality applications to advance simulation training in the healthcare education sector. The Research Assistant’s principal role will be to contribute to cutting-edge research and development of VR/AR and Al technologies.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Implementation of AR/VR UX Design: Implement user experience designs in both AR and VR settings, crafting realistic and engaging AR/VR environments for healthcare education simulation training, thereby enhancing both realism and interactivity.
  2. AR/VR-based Scenario Development: Utilize your expertise in Unity to design and develop training scenarios in both AR and VR. Your contributions are crucial in creating immersive and interactive environments for patient simulations, elevating the training experience. 
  3. Applied AI and AR/VR Research Implementation: Engage in implementing AI research, integrating it with AR/VR technologies to create dynamic and realistic dialogues within simulation scenarios. 
  4. Usability Studies and Data Analysis: Conduct comprehensive usability studies, gather, and analyze data from AR/VR training simulations to evaluate and refine the effectiveness and performance of these training modalities.

Qualifications

  1. Possess a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or a related field, with a specialization in AR/VR, Natural Language Processing, or Human-Computer Interaction.
  2. Strong Programming Skills: Proven proficiency in Unity, C#, and Python, with experience in delivering Unity-based AR/VR programs.
  3. DevOps Technologies Expertise: Knowledgeable in Docker, Kubernetes, and other DevOps technologies.
  4. Azure Cloud Solutions Experience: Familiarity with Azure Cloud Solutions is advantageous.
  5. Problem-solving and Innovation: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, coupled with a creative mindset to develop innovative AR/VR solutions.
