Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for a Research Assistant for work in the Metabolic Liver Laboratory in the Department of Medicine, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine for the study “Integrating Clinical and Molecular Markers to determine clinical outcomes in MASLD”. Our Metabolic Liver Laboratory actively interrogates Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) – previously known as NAFLD / NASH. Our laboratory conducts cutting edge wet and dry lab work to interrogate biomarkers, develop novel therapeutics, as well as device cost-effective care pathways in the disease. Our team is well known internationally for our work in this space and is well published. We collaborate actively with other investigators, both within Hepatology as well as in other disciplines. We have multiple ongoing collaborations with industry, and actively run clinical trials.

Appointments will be made on a 1-year contract basis in the first instance, with the possibility of extension.

Purpose of the post

The Research Assistant (RA) will be responsible for and work closely with the Principal Investigator and study team members to ensure the successful completion of the study on time and provide administrative support. The RA’s principal role will be to work in general practices such as administrative support, collection of data and simple analysis.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Assistant will liaise with the relevant personnel in the hospital to smooth the process of recruitment and data collection and will be accountable to the Principal Investigator (PI). The RA will be able to:

  1. Oversee the general management of the project;
  2. Provide administrative and secretarial support to the project, such as organizing regular meetings to maintain regular communication with other members of the research team and collaborate with the study sites and industry partners;
  3. Assist with Ethics and Grants applications and administration;
  4. Undertake the day to day running of the project at the study site, e.g. Collaborate with team members at the study sites, recruitment, data collection at hospitals/participants’ homes;
  5. Conduct literature searches, using SPSS to enter data, and analyze data and maintain trial database, as well as assist in preparing both progress and final reports of the project;
  6. Maintain the highest standard of professional conduct and record keeping in accordance with policies and procedures;
  7. Assist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI.

Qualifications

The applicant should:

  1. Have a first degree with good results or hold a bachelor’s degree in life sciences, nursing or other related disciplines.
  2. be able to work independently and in a team, have an investigative nature, attention to detail.
  3. Any experience with ethics and research administration will be an advantage.
