Job Description

Climate change is the defining challenge of our time, shaping the health of populations for generations to come. The National University of Singapore is tackling this crisis through its Centre for Sustainable Medicine (CoSM), working to accelerate the transition to low-carbon, climate-resilient health systems.

The Centre is hiring a highly motivated and specialized Research Assistant in Policy Engagement, to support the Centre’s translational research efforts. The successful candidate will bring a combination of technical expertise in either health or sustainability policy, combined with experience translating science and evidence in to real-world change. They will work as part of the Centre’s Implementation Team to coordinate the engagement and decision support for policymakers and industry in Singapore and across the world. The role provides a rare opportunity to work at the centre of the rapidly evolving field of sustainable medicine, shaping the future of healthcare and clinical practice in the face of climate change.

Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Implementation, the successful candidate will hold a number of key responsibilities, including:

  • Supporting the development of decarbonization strategies for health facilities and healthcare systems;
  • Developing initiatives designed to verify and validate carbon footprint and net zero claims made by national healthcare systems and the health industry;
  • Growing a community of practice and expertise both within NUS and the wider clinical community in Singapore, connecting colleagues across professional and organisational boundaries to provide support and share best practices;
  • Coordinating the Centre’s engagement with policymakers, civil society, and broader partners in the health and climate change community, across the world.

In addition to these duties, the post holder will be expected to be flexible in their role as the Centre’s capacity evolves.

Qualifications

Applicants should:

  1. Hold a Bachelor's degree in a related discipline (e.g. public health, public administration, health policy, sustainability, or other relevant field);
  2. Come with technical expertise in either public health, medicine or sustainability
  3. Have experience translating evidence in to policy impact
  4. Be a strong team player in a highly dynamic and rapidly growing team;
  5. Be resourceful, adaptable, and able to coordinate and grow new communities of practice;
  6. Have excellent command of spoken and written English;
  7. Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills;
