The National University of Singapore invites applications for the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Ophthalmology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine to participate in an exciting research program developing treatments for myopia.

Appointments will be made on a contract basis for 3 years after a probationary period. A competitive salary will be offered commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
Job Description
- The primary objective of this position is to measure the biomechanical properties of manipulated ocular tissues and help develop novel technologies for studying the functional biomechanics of ocular tissues both ex-vivo and in-vivo. Training will be provided for specialised methods and innovative adaptation is expected.
- Applicant would be expected to assist with writing grant applications, and drafting research manuscripts
- The Postdoctoral research fellow would also be expected to help guide young students and visiting scholars and facilitate cross-disciplinary collaborations.
- Applicant would be expected to comply with all ethics, health and safety and other regulatory requirements for proper functioning of the laboratory
Qualifications
- Applicants must hold a PhD in an Engineering-related field specialising in biomechanics or ultrasonics. Optical engineering will also be considered. Experience in working with biological tissues is essential.
- Experience with collagen tissue biomechanics is also considered an advantage.
- An excellent track record of research accomplishments and a passion for translational ophthalmology is essential.
- Capacity for sophisticated data modelling with programming or AI expertise is essential.
- Experience with animal models of myopia is advantageous.
- Applicant must have an ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative, cross-disciplinary team.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a passion for innovation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to document research findings and communicate effectively to diverse audiences.
