Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for the position of Research Fellow for the project titled “Reducing carbapenem resistance through personalised antimicrobial stewardship. (PRECISE)” within the School of Medicine (SoM). PRECISE is a multidisciplinary research project that aims to develop and evaluate evidence-based antimicrobial stewardship (ASP) interventions to reduce carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative bacteria (CR-GNB) carriage and infection among hospitalized patients. The successful candidate will contribute to high-impact research that advances antimicrobial stewardship strategies and improves patient outcomes. The appointment will be made on a one-year contract in the first instance, with the possibility of extension based on performance and project funding.

Purpose of the post
The Research Fellow will lead high-quality research in bioinformatics, microbiome and biostatistical analyses related to antimicrobial resistance and disease transmissions, contributing to scientific publications and grant applications, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to advance the programme's research objectives.
Main duties and responsibilities
The Research Fellow will develop and apply bioinformatics and statistical approaches to support clinical and infectious disease research. The role includes managing research projects and milestones, conducting data analyses using R and high-performance computing resources (Linux), contributing to scientific publications and grant applications, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring the successful delivery of project objectives.
The Research Fellow will be responsible for:
•    Developing and applying bioinformatics and statistical methods to support clinical and infectious disease research using R and high-performance computing (HPC) resources.
•    Preparing scientific manuscripts, reports, and contributing to research grant applications.
•    Managing research projects, including coordinating study activities, timelines, deliverables, and collaborations with internal and external stakeholders.
•    Supporting data management, quality assurance, and ensuring timely completion of project milestones.
•    Presenting research findings at scientific meetings and collaborating with multidisciplinary research teams.
•    Performing other research-related duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Epidemiology, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related quantitative or Biological discipline.
  • Experience in microbiome data analyses, statistical modelling, biostatistics, bioinformatics.
  • Proficiency in R and UNIX, with strong experience with high-performance computing (HPC) environments.
  • Demonstrated track record of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Experience in leading manuscripts and contributing to research grant applications.
  • Strong project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary research teams.
  • Knowledgeable in microbiology and molecular biology, prior experience in infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), or clinical research would be desirable.
