The National University of Singapore invites applications for Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Centre of Life Sciences, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.

 

Dr Daniel Teh’s laboratory (DT Lab) shares the mission of the Department of Ophthalmology in pursuing impactful translational research through interdisciplinary research. Our laboratory focuses on developing technologies related to vision loss therapeutics (e.g. optogenetics), cancer (e.g. wireless photodynamic therapy), and nanoprobes for visualization of cellular and molecular processes. DT Lab is in the Centre of Life Sciences, under the LSI Neurobiology Programme, a well-equipped research facility with in-house vivarium and various core facilities.

 

We now seek a well driven and passionate Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to join our team as we work on translating research to medical application. The Research Fellow will have the opportunity to be involved in various high-impact research projects and develop a fulfilling research career. Appointments will be made on a 12-24 month contract basis.

 

Purpose of the post


The Post-Doctoral Research Fellow will hold a crucial role in leading research programs, applying for grants, and managing the laboratory with a specific emphasis on material science applications. Collaborating closely with the Principal Investigator and the study team, they will ensure the successful completion of research projects. Additionally, the Fellow may guide and oversee the Research Assistant in planning, executing experiments, and collecting data. The role also encompasses occasional administrative tasks, including document preparation, procurement, and general laboratory housekeeping.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Post-Doctoral Research Fellow will play a pivotal role in advanced research projects with a focus on material science, and report directly to the Principal Investigator (PI). The Fellow's responsibilities will include:

  1. Planning, executing, and troubleshooting advanced in-vitro and in-vivo experiments in the realm of material science, nanoscience, and hydrogel to ensure the acquisition of relevant and high-quality data;
  2. Providing administrative and secretarial support to the project, including organizing regular meetings to maintain effective communication with other members of the research team and collaborating with external partners;
  3. Conducting comprehensive literature searches, analyzing data, and maintaining databases, with a specific emphasis on material science applications, including hydrogels. Additionally, assisting in the preparation of both progress and final reports for the projects;
  4. Upholding the highest standard of professional conduct and meticulous record-keeping in accordance with established policies and procedures;
  5. Assisting with any other duties of a similar nature as delegated by the PI to ensure the smooth progression and success of the research projects.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications:

  1. Hold a PhD with a strong interests and experiences in material science, hydrogels, nanoscience,   or nanotechnology.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team, exhibiting an investigative nature and attention to detail;
  3. Possess knowledge of relevant computer applications such as GraphPad Prism, MS Office, and PowerPoint;
  4. Prior experience in research, particularly in interdisciplinary science and material science, will be advantageous.
